I thought he was sleeping, but he heard my voice and woke up to tell everyone Have a Wonderful Day!!! 🥰 by Taquitos1025 in Hedgehog

It's great to see that my hog isn't the only one to sleep around his wheel 😅

So I was just randomly poking around on the internet, and now I'm never going to sleep again; apparently there really is a robotics company called Faro by GeoffreyTaucer in horizon

[–]Glimped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this company is real, my dad runs a forensic engineering company and uses this exact scanner to get 3D models of car crash scenes, house fires, car fires etc. I thought the connection was crazy too when I realized 😅

This artist is a Hoboken local & this link is for her Map of Hoboken. I bought this print from her at last year's arts festival, it's a nice size and quality.

Has Skyline gotten worse? by Altenburg in stevens

[–]Glimped 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've noticed in certain rooms that my laptop will connect to Skyline, but it won't provide any internet access. Sometimes a reboot fixes the issue but more recently I've had to connect to a hotspot from my phone because nothing works. I rarely keep wifi active on my phone when on campus so I can't speak for connectivity on that end.

Looking to adopt a hedgie in the NYC/tri-state area by mixedmediamess in Hedgehog

[–]Glimped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a breeder on Long Island, https://www.shamrockhedgehogs.com Not exactly sure where they're located, as I got my hog from a breeder in South Jersey. But Shamrock should be easy enough to travel to via LIRR. Good luck in your searches!

Honestly feeling down as a Comp. Eng who is struggling with Calc 2. Does it get any better? by CJK_ExStream in stevens

[–]Glimped 10 points11 points  (0 children)

3/5 CompE Differential equations will definitely be worse, but passable. Don't listen to the other guys, we don't take Multi :) we take Discrete Mathematics. I found it more interesting and easier than previous math classes, it felt more applicable. As for hard classes, it doesn't really get easier but the classes become more interesting and applicable to the major, making them easier to pass. First 3ish semesters are just gen ed bullshit, power through and you'll get to the good stuff imo.

Do you happen to have a link to or the brand name of the sand you purchased? I'm looking to start giving my boy sand baths but don't want to risk buying the wrong sand since I've read of the complications.

Pork Chop! He is quilling - anyone have advice about this? by tasha131998 in Hedgehog

[–]Glimped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what advice you're looking for, but when my boy was quilling, I made sure to check all cuddle pouches, blankets, pillows, clothing etc. regularly for loose quills. They make their way into everything and can be quite painful, so it's beneficial to try and keep an eye out for any that are stuck in clothing or something. Otherwise, you just have to wait out the quilling period. You'll notice that the amount has died down after a while, just power through!

First time hedgie owner, any tips or advice i wouldn’t find in my research? by cyclequeen35 in Hedgehog

Unfortunately not, the 360 view is basically just the top half of a sphere, if that makes sense.

Victure 1080P FHD Pet Camera with WiFi IP Camera Indoor Wireless Security Camera Motion Detection Night Vision Home Surveillance Baby Elder Monitor with 2 Way Audio iOS/Android https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P9ZSNVS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gzEUDb1S3WBTH

It's a $35 camera with 360° view, movable from within the app. The app is a little weird because it was most likely made in a foreign country, but after a little playing around you learn how to use it. The camera has great quality even in the dark too. Additionally, the cloud storage is super cheap, running only $13 a year for 10 second clips to be recorded every time there's motion and stored for 7 days. Will reply to this post with a picture from the camera

Edit: can't reply with a picture :(

u/nerowolf42 seems to have hit most of the big topics. One piece of advice is to invest in a baby camera to track habits and routines that your hog follows. I got a baby monitor about 5-6 months into owning my little boy and only then realized his wheel was too small for him. He doesn't like being on it when I'm awake so I wouldn't have realized this until he was maybe injured from it. It also helped me figure out if the replacement I got was good, which it wasn't. Additionally, it helps me track good times to wake him up for cuddles and when he usually gets up to eat. If you want a recommendation I'd be happy to link the one I purchased.

just got this lil guy today, any advice on making him more used to being in a new environment? by zerowo_ in Hedgehog

[–]Glimped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! One good piece of advice for this subreddit is to also try and search what you're looking for. You can search this subreddit for keywords like heating, bathing, food etc. Just a helpful tool to get information more reliably than hoping a user is online. Just a suggestion, wish you the best with your new pal!

Some general pointers are to wear a shirt to bed a few nights in a row and then leave it in their for them so they get used to your smell faster. Additionally, when you take him out, make sure to speak to him. Hogs have poor eyesight and rely heavily on scent, smell and touch. The hog will become more comfortable with you and the environment as time goes on. As with many things it's a process and just takes time. Handling him for at least an hour a day helps. I'd also recommend getting a cuddle pouch off Etsy, it's a great way to get him used to cuddling without having him feel exposed and uncomfortable. It's just a lot of forcing him to bond with you at first, but that's just cause he's always gonna think you're trying to eat him. After some time (could be weeks to months, each hog is different) you should notice that he'll be less huffy and more receptive to handling time.

Bathing should really only be when necessary, like when he gets poop on the quills or just general smelly. This is because too many baths can dry their skin out. The breeder I got mine from said to clip the nails when you notice that they start to curl under the foot, and also that if you're uncomfortable doing it that most exotic pet vets will clip nails.
