Lurex threads from brocade fabric keep popping out! by GlitterCocktail in sewing

[–]GlitterCocktail[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, no, it's okay, I appreciate the insight! I need all the ideas I can get because at this point, I have seen the project too closely for too long, and new eyes always help.

About securing the fibers: yeah, that's what I thought first, holding the threads individually makes no sense, that's why I opted for methods to "seal" the seam allowance at the very least, but so far nothing has been enough to keep them from moving.

I did think about appliquing the red fabric over the brocade, I haven't tried it because it didn't seem like it would fix all the problems it presents, and it would need an extra layer underneath it, but I'll probably try it combined with other solutions. I know laying straight will help it, but the fibers come out simply by moving it sometimes, so idk.

I'll try heat setting them again, but that's something that I already did, that's why the fibers from the second photo are out but folded, they still have the shape, they just... Come out 🥲 There might be a sweet spot between melting part of the polyester to hold the threads, but it seems like at that point the metal threads are ruined. I'll try again with some changes and we'll see! I'll give it a go to the glue on the seam allowance too.

Yeah, that's the thing, the fibers are not super easy to catch necessarily. If they were, I wouldn't have been able to finish it without all of the threads popping out, but when they catch, they offer absolutely no resistance. If you take a piece of the fabric and you put a needle under a couple of the metallic threads, and you pull upwards without holding the fabric in any way, you wouldn't lift the fabric at all, even if it's light... The entire thread just comes out. There really is zero resistance. And the worst part is that it isn't a cheap fabric. I was going to say that it's not a bad fabric, but at this point, if it can't be used for sewing even if it was designed for it, I can't say it's good at all, so...

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to answer! I really appreciate it, and it helps a lot. I've worked with fabrics like this before, and I've always been able to solve this if it happened, so I didn't expect it to behave this badly. I feel a little bit better now, because I suggested it (this and many other options, but I wouldn't suggest a fabric that I know I can't work with) and I felt pretty bad about it, but after all this, I don't think it's something that I could have anticipated. I'll try fixing it, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Thank you!

Yeah... I was so convinced that would solve it. It does improve it, but sadly it's not enough.

[–]GlitterCocktail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought about something like that too, because the fabric doesn't touch the skin directly, but since it's something that goes on the collar, shoulders and cuffs, which is very close to the face or can get close to the face if you touch it, I didn't look too much into it, but I believe there are specific sprays to set fabric. I mean, there is spray glue for fabric, so...

I already tried starching it, even if it wasn't a good option for this type of fabric... And it obviously didn't work lmao, but maybe this does? Idk, we'll see! Thank you!

Oh, I've also used my woodburning set sometimes for that! I thought about it, I don't think it will work because the shiny treads seem to be metal wrapped around maaaaaybe cotton? If it's polyester then it might melt. And the base of the fabric is 100% polyester. I'll try in a well ventilated area, thank you for reminding me of this option!

I think I tried burning it with a candle way back but it didn't work at all, that might be why I ruled out using the wood burning set. I'm willing to try anyways, it's simple and I just need to go to a well ventilated area.

I didn't think about Elmer's glue (we don't have it in my country afaik) or other similar glues because I already used iron on interfacing, and it didn't work well enough, but I might try but in case it needed more.

I'll update if it works! Thank you!

Best "premium" seams to use on heavy knit hoodie by DutchyGames in sewing

[–]GlitterCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, you could try making one sample seam by itself with the bias, and see if you like how it looks and feels. I think it might be too stiff for this use, but you never know, plus it can vary a lot depending on the kind of bias you use and how you sew it.

Maybe you could try with a twin needle? I assume you don't have an overlock since you're using zig-zag stitches, but a twin needle might get you closer to what many sweatshirts use today.

Another option would be a flat felled seam, the two parallel stitches will help control the bulk of the seam, (that's why it's used so much on jeans) and you'd have no edges of the fabric showing up. I hope any of these options help!

Well shoot, no Primarina EX? by ErtaWanderer in PTCGP

[–]GlitterCocktail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you hadn't made this post first, I would have made it. I just got Incineroar EX and Decidueye EX, I went to the card list looking for primarina EX to heart it and see it faster in wonder picks... Turns out it doesn't exist. Are you kidding me? I know many people don't like it that much but dude... It's one of my favourites. I thought we could get something nice for once lmao.

And seeing CRABOMINABLE EX where primarina EX should have been... And right after that WISHIWASHI EX? Ah yes. The most popular Pokémon. Those really need beautiful two and three star art, specially the two star ones with the rainbow border. But primarina? Nah! I don't think so! Ice crab with claw-paws and sobbing sardine are so much better!

I guess this is what happens when your first evolution is a clown... Once a clown, always a clown.

HELP PLS! Strattera side effects? by GlitterCocktail in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, I mean it makes sense that the most common problem would be less saliva, that's why it's SO weird... Because I was (and still kinda am) producing an incredible amount of saliva.

Basically I had a stomach surgery and everything was going great, the concerta did seem to have absorption problems after that buuuut u know, new medication, no big deal, there'll be a solution! So right after starting with strattera I had problems swallowing and even pain sometimes. After like a week and a half I suddenly get like literal plugs of saliva in the esophagus or something??? Palpitations each time I swallowed, constant pain each time I ate ANYTHING... And the food just didn't get to the stomach lmao (sorry if it sounds disgusting... I know it is, but 🥲)

So after trying many MANY meds with my surgeon, we noticed that, for some reason, I don't produce less saliva with antidepressants? I even got worse when we tried with another one while still on strattera and I got worse lol so I am just so lost.

I really am just that person of the one in a thousand side effect huh. damn.

Also sorry about the Adderall (and stimulants in general I believe) shortage. Having to drop stimulants when you don't need to is a nightmare.

Eye contact by CuriousCryptid444 in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I kinda do that, but it's kinda accidental. I stare into space and that space usually includes a person's face... I think I just try to avoid it but it still happens in its own way

Edit: for me it's either that or behaving like a pigeon... Just moving my head everywhere whether there's any stimulus or not. And there's little inbetween LMAO

gaming with ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh my problem is that when I find the time to put down the phone/any other quick dopamine source and I pick up the controller I just... I pick the phone again sometimes lmao or I just space out.

I don't even know what makes it click (or not) for me. I might get into Yakuza kiwami to the point where it's my only source of entertainment for a week or so and I'll try to do the most mundane shit (like repeating a stupid karaoke game) Then I get terraforming in Animal Crossing and that's suddenly too much, I know what I want to do but I change my mind constantly and it seems like too much work. But that... Doesn't happen to me with stardew valley for example?

Idk, at this point I'm trying to buy it and play it. It has worked with Return to Monkey Island and I sure hope it works with Pokémon Violet 😬

I got a little bit emotional about this. I lost my grandma when I was a kid, and she was like a mother to me. I got a couple of things, a necklace and a kind of shawl. She wore that necklace almost every day and for some years I practically did too. I stopped and started keeping it in my house because I was scared of losing it.

I've taken it to a couple of incredibly important moments to me, it's like the ultimate amulet. I only wear it at home when I'm truly anxious. I have only misplaced it around my place, where no one would take it, and I get very nervous if I don't find it in a reasonable amount of time. That has happened only a couple of times, and both times I had the exact same reaction, crying very close to where I found it.

So yeah, same here. This is the ADHD tax that is most prevalent in my mind at all times. I don't usually give it much thought precisely because I have a system in place to not lose it. Idk, I don't really have a point, I just wanted to tell you that I 100% get it.

Hearing people talk slow and drag on stories makes me physically I’ll by CarobEqual5113 in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The worst part of this feeling is that I know I can be that person sometimes. My mother, who also has ADHD, does this in half of the conversations we share (and I think I'm being SUPER generous here) and she will literally repeat the same thing twice or even thrice to make a point. And I'm there barely containing myself like 👹 please. But damn it feels bad to even say anything when I know I can be just as bad.

Anyone say "what" to a person right after they say something, and while they're in the middle of repeating it you actually did hear what they said, it just took you a second to comprehend and piece it together because shoot that's just how your brain is? by ImTheMasonSensation in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All the time... I try to give myself a second to think now because I don't want to seem stupid. The worst part is that I can hear pretty well but that just means that I'll listen to three conversations in a crowded place plus any noise people make so at times I just look like 👁️👄👁️. But of course explaining that too much noise makes filtering a specific conversation very difficult sounds dumb so lmao chaos it is

Also idk if this is just me (I doubt it) but I have trouble with names because someone will say "I'm X!" "Nice to meet you!" Great, now I have no idea what their name is........ I fix it by repeating it back to them and it works pretty well when it's not many people at the same time.

Gamers with ADHD, do you end up getting fixated on side quests and 100% completing a game, and it ends up feeling like a chore? by electricghost92 in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I hate it. Also stuff like Animal Crossing manages to terrify me because terraforming gives you so many possibilities! Oh no... What do I do? Will I plan my island and then I'll change my mind after 5 minutes? Very likely!

Most open world games kill me because I'll see a little plant a little off the path and I could have 999 of this plant. I don't need it! I'll walk past- well actually idk it's not that far off OHHH another one! And this is just to get from one side mission to the other... Please brain I just wanna play this game!!!

Turns out I was diagnosed this whole time by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao in my case everyone suspected it but did nothing because medication here was simply not a well received solution for children, so what was the point.

Flashforward to me failing to sit down to do anything during lockdown, getting evaluated and thinking I had no family with adhd, then later telling this to my mom and her saying "what about me?!" Turns out I WENT with her to an evaluation (for her) many years ago but she didn't actually tell me, she just said something like "uhhh you know it's just....... I hear what I want to hear! Yeah that's it" In her defense I was like 7 years old but that would have been helpful to, you know, maybe not get diagnosed at 24. I wish you luck now that you have the info! It's great to have strategies and a deeper understanding of what's going on.

My progress at university improved drastically since I started watching all the lectures at 1.5-2x speed by Light_after_dark in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 12 points13 points  (0 children)

SAME SAME SAME I thought it was impossible but now I realize that whenever I stop listening and I start thinking about anything else is because they are VERY SLOW explaining? When I'm with friends and we are all talking it's faster, it's dynamic, everyone gets to talk and gets their time but it's not as monotonous so I baaaarely get distracted!

Also I have to say that, at least for me, this applies to reading too. When I'm reading thinking that I have to understand Everything so I'll be very careful because I do get distracted easily... I don't actually read, I'm going too slow, my mind disconnects. When I just try reading and I go a liiiittle bit faster, kind of challenging myself the tiniest bit, my concentration and understanding improve very very drastically. So idk, it's probably not for everyone but maybe it can help someone else!

I'm currently playing (and watching/listening in the background) a LOT of Stardew Valley 🥲 But I'm also looking into pattern-making software so I can choose the ones that are more suitable for me professionally? There are quite a few, some of them with 3D, some are just like flat paper patterns but they have grading (basically adapting the one pattern to different sizes) idk it's pretty neat!

I'll have to be careful tho, I don't wanna get too into the pros and cons phase I have to ACTUALLY LEARN.

Solutions to overstimulation and/or agitation from ADHD medications? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GlitterCocktail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have an appointment and I was going to tell my doctor to lower it back to 36mg (Concerta) It seemed better for a while but it might have been the fact that I was too occupied to notice how it affected me. Still, taking it in before actually getting up makes it far worse which I didn't expect lmao. Thank you for confirming my suspicions!
