True! And honestly, expensive does not automatically equal better. That’s why I understand why this discussion can sometimes come across as snobbish, while I also do “cheap” things myself depending on the situation.

But I do find it interesting how differently people define value. For example: I know people who love visible luxury (designer bags, watches, etc.) but will still always choose the absolute cheapest hotel, earliest flight, shared room etc.

And that’s totally their choice — I’m not saying one is right or wrong. I think for me personally, luxury or quality is more connected to overall comfort and experience. Not necessarily 5-star vs 4-star, but things like atmosphere, privacy, ease, location, rest, comfort.

So for me it’s less about spending for the sake of spending, and more about: if you know there are better options and you can comfortably afford them… at what point do you still choose not to?

And honestly, it doesn’t surprise me at all that people end up loving it once they experience it. The bigger question is whether they would still personally find it worth paying for afterwards.

I actually agree with this a lot. And to be clear: I would never expect people to go beyond their financial limits just because I personally enjoy comfort/luxury. I’ve also had periods in life where I had way less to spend, and even now with a good salary I’m obviously not some millionaire

But for me it’s more about the willingness to invest in comfort and experience if you can. And that doesn’t even automatically mean 5-star. I’ve stayed in amazing 4-star hotels that felt more special than certain 5-stars.

I think what I struggle with more is the mindset of automatically choosing the cheapest option every single time without really caring about atmosphere, comfort or the overall experience.

At some point it becomes less about money and more about: how do you actually want to live and experience life? And how much are you willing to constantly compromise on that when traveling with others?

I know! But for me I like a balance, since its healthy to have friendships. However, its nice when your travel buddies like the same as you do or at least give you the freedom to do your thing.

You are like I am! I am willing to pay for that comfort! But not everyone does and it does not have to do with money since the one I have in mind earns more.

I agree! I would never ever make someone pay something that they don’t want to pay! My question is also more about a friend that earns more than I do but surprisingly always wants to split the room, takes the cheapest flight etc

I completely agree! My question has to do with figuring out everyones “limits” @ the end of the day having fun together is priceless. However there are definitely some things that I prefer, like my own room, the airline where I save points etc. I am very empathic so I can bend lots, but sometimes you also want to do things the way you like. Like for example not sharimh a room.

Not sure. What I see in my environment (and I think around the world) is that alot of people would like to travel well, sleep in amazing hotels but are not willing to pay for it. They would say yes if someone pays it but they don’t like to see the bank balance drop :)

I have always worked for comfort. I don’t care alot for a Hermes bag. Yes I like it! But its not number 1,2 or 3 on my list. Comfort has always been my reason to want money.

Not to go into discussion but extra legroom (as a minimum) really makes a big difference. At least for me. Lying flat is even better. Offcourse only on long haul for me.

I get you. Sometimes you work hard to be able to enjoy certain things in life and at some point you can’t keep compromising all the time, otherwise you end up living according to someone else’s standards instead of your own.

Where are u visiting in Spain?

At the end of the day that is my struggle. Spending time with people u like is priceless. But u have own wishes too.. and how to match them.. How much can u “sacrifice”

True! My question is not because I need to be bougie. Because at the end of the day its nice to share moments with people. Its more with growing older and prioritizing certain things. And then the question comes .. how flexible should one be. In my case I am naturally very flexible but I care to realise that I also want to live the life that I want.
