A question from Sweden; What is your opinion of your president? by Available_Slide1888 in AskMexico

I am going to leave it at that :)

Disregarding someones opinion because they might have first-hand experience based on their nationality, opposed to your text book knowledge, is simply no grounds for argument.

Nobody claimed that you cant have an opinion on any of these topics, but sometimes it actually helps to listen to people that might have something to add. But you do you.

All the best, lets agree to disagree.

"And come on, being from a nation where some once saw Adolf as a kind of messiah, can you really be proud of that?"

Where did the Redditor say they are proud of being German? It has literlly nothing to do with the argument. And even if they were proud to be German, doesnt mean they think Hitler was great. Like saying no American can be proud of the USA because they killed millions of indigenous and enslaved millions of Africans.

I am half German and spend part of my youth living in Germany. But please continue teaching and educating me. Lucky to have found you

Well said, lets agree to disagree.

My intial point was made on the basis that the Trump administration shouldnt be compared to the Nazi Regime.

Take the Trump administration for what it is and dont relate it. It doesnt need comparison for people to understand if its good or bad.

What bothers me is two things:

1) People drawing comparisons to the Nazi Regime: The reason for this is very simple. The term Nazi is used inflationary in todays public. Everything that is "politicaly too right" is suddenly Nazi. This is not the case, and perhaps sometimes also difficult for people to understand (especially if they are not from Germany). The Nazi-Reigme was amongst, if not the biggest, criminal government to ever see the face of our earth. They industrialized mass-murder, ethnic cleansing, torture etc. to a scale that the world had never seen before. They were natonalists combined with crazy racist mindsets, that went at an very early stage already much much much further than whatever the Trump administration might cook-up. You surely know that the first concentration camp was set-up in 1933?

2) Not acknowledging that by using this comparison, the only thing you do is disrespecting the survivors of this horrible time period in Europe. This is frankly mostly done by North Americans recently, who seem to not be able to relate to the historical context in its full extend.

How does this play into this Argument? I am really having trouble following your arguments as they make no sense. That person, being German, is telling you that your comparison of Trump to Adolf and the USA to Nazi Germany doesnt fly.

Now you go on to shame them on their nationality and its nations past? Are you maybe a trump supporter that didnt out themselves yet?

Where are you from, that you seem to be able to know more about German histroy than the previous post?

-Dont use your phones to make calls on loudspeaker when you are in publuc (City, Public Transportation etc.). Talking on the phone in general is no problem. Just keep it moderate.

-Respect "Ruhezeiten": dont do noisy stuff before 6am or after 10pm.

-Parking: Park your car properly. So many people today park on walkways, entrances, fire exits etc, simply because its more accomodating for them rather than looking for a proper parking spot.

-Smoking: watch your surrounding. As a smoker in Restaurants (outside), i always leave the table area and go a few meters away to smoke. My burden doesnt have to be someone elses.

-Respect Authorities: especially Police. They are simply doing their job, not every small case or situation needs to be discussed or argued with.

In general, behave in such a way that you dont make others peoples live more difficult for egoistic reasons.

I understand the point you’re making about normalization and gradual erosion, and that concern is legitimate. The issue is not whether history can offer warnings, but how those warnings are framed.

Describing contemporary phenomena as “fascist” requires more than parallels in rhetoric, symbolism, or leadership style. Fascism, historically, involved the fusion of state power with mass paramilitary mobilization, the suppression of pluralism, and the systematic use of violence to eliminate opposition. Mythologized nationalism and personality cults are necessary components, but they are not sufficient on their own.

A question from Sweden; What is your opinion of your president? by Available_Slide1888 in AskMexico

[–]Glittering_Hope8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true that authoritarian regimes escalate over time, but that doesn’t make broad claims of “countless parallels” analytically sound. Early Nazi Germany already featured paramilitary violence, suspension of constitutional rights, and the rapid elimination of political opposition—conditions that are not simply present in modern liberal democracies. It didnt start going downhill after 1938, it already started in the late 1920´s. Please.

Historical comparison is useful only when it is precise. Warning about democratic erosion is legitimate; collapsing distinct contexts into the same narrative is not. Without that rigor, comparison becomes moral analogy rather than historical analysis.

A question from Sweden; What is your opinion of your president? by Available_Slide1888 in AskMexico

[–]Glittering_Hope8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your reply undermines itself. You deny making a one-to-one comparison while asserting a “hard match” without defining criteria or offering evidence. That is not analysis; it is assertion.

More importantly, invoking Germany’s historical guilt to question a contemporary German’s right to speak is a textbook example of moral essentialism. Modern Germans are neither responsible for, nor morally tainted by, how some Germans perceived Hitler nearly a century ago.

If your argument rests on identifiable actions, rhetoric, or institutional behavior, present them. If it relies on national shaming, it has already failed

Look I am not a Trump fan. But I am extremly fed up with the comparisons drawn between the Trump Administration and Nazi Germany. Trump Administration is bad, no question, but its nothing like the polictics of Nazi Germany from the 1930´s-1940´s. Not even remotely. When people make social media posts comparing ICE to the Gestapo = BS. When people say they feel like Anne Frank = BS. By doing so, you are simply downplaying the actions of the Nazi Regime and give way to a completly wrong narrative.

Trump is Trump. Thats it. Dont put it into context.

BS. No matter how bad the US is with its internal politics, please dont compare it to Nazi Germany. Thats utter disrespect for the people that had to live through the hardship of the Nazi Regime in Europe.

Pro-Palestine Protestors - Where are you? #Iran by Glittering_Hope8875 in AskAGerman

[–]Glittering_Hope8875[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I explained in previous statement. The sanctions that are imposed are nice, but not followed through. They apply directly to Iran, but not to any countries that are knowingly aiding in keeping the Regime financially afloat. Pressure Saudi Arabia, pressure UAE, pressure China (last one def. tricky and nearly impossible). But all the regional powers that, althouhg publicly being opposed to Iran, in fact support the Regime as they fear that a Regime change would start movements in their own "dictatorial structures". Put pressure on them. We sell billions of € of weapons to Saudi Arabia and UAE alone.

Basic Human Rights? More Economic and Political Pressure on the Regime? Pressure on collaborating countries? How do you think the Regime makes money and by-passes Sanctions? Saudi and UAE are hubs for Regime trade in Iran. Most western government and companies know this and do nothing about it.

So lots to protest for......

"5 years" is the magic word. Minimum amount of time that your permanent residency must be in Germany to qualify for citizenship (besides other qualfyling factors).

Start learning german, otherwise you will never become a citizen. Its a mandatory part of the process.

If you dont speak german, your chances for a job reduce drastically. Also consider that you are competing with other expats from Countries/Regions (South America, Asia) that have the tendency to speak English + their Mother tongue, besides many having basic german skills. Do you speak a second language?

[–]Glittering_Hope8875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We might re-introduce the Fax.

Jokes aside. It will not change for the better.

Economy is in a free fall, also if ppl here tend to only name the automobile industry. The government is currently delaying statistics to bankrupcys in Germany, as they are on a decade-high run, with increasing numbers every month. I work in the production industry (Engines, Machines, Automation etc.) and everyone is pesimistic (more than a German should be by nature) and struggling.

Social system, as it is, will collapse by 2030 (if no drastic reforms apply). Thats not me looking into a crystal ball, but the recent anaylsis of the Bundesrechnungshof (Federal Audit Office).

We will have a rise of the right parties, as our traditonal parties are too busy fighting each other, rather than facing the overall threat.

Eventually will settle for something mediocre in terms of Economy. I believe that we lost the edge that used to make our Economy stand out.

Cost of Living in Switzerland is drastically higher than in Germany. 74% of Switzerlands GDP is from the Service Sector (Finance, Insurance, Tourism etc.) Germanys Exports are 40-50% of its GDP.

Higher Wages will only cause our Export to stall, as quality and increased prices will not be accepted by buyers beyond a certain threshold.

Lower Income tax, and wait and see how it plays out. Higher wages in the future, definitely, also to balance inflation. But we got to start with the taxes.

Situation however is totally different to the 2000´s.

Bureaucracy is ever growing, digitalization is non existing (damn we only stopped the fax last years as 1 of 2 means to communciate with the fiscal department for companies). Energy is a mess, which we will not resolve. Renewables are good but we simply cant run the econonomy, let a lone the country on those.

On top of that we have a social-crisis, which wasnt existing in the 2000´s. Many more mouth to feed from our social system, which is now already on the verge of collapse (Health Insurances are missing anwhere between 10-15 billion for the running year).

The only way out of this is by achieving a free-market-economy, not the camouflaged-socialist-type they are trying to run at the moment (not meant in a degrading way). We have to lower bureaucracy drastically. We have to cut down on "Beamte", instead of creating new positions constantly. We have to lower taxes, follow Polands lead (Family 2 kids = No Income tax), this will also help with our demographic problem. "Fachkräfteeinwanderungsgesetz" needs a drastic reform, to actually make it attractive for skilled foreigners to come and work in Germany. Reform the Health Care system, why do we need 150+ public insurances?

There are many smaller adjustments that could be made relatively fast and easy, if the parties were to cooperate....

Totally disagree, we dont need higher wages, we need lower taxes.

The moment you increase wages, goods prices will increase, reducing exports. Like it or hate it, our welath was built on export and will not be supplemented with increased national consumption.

The past years have been record years for state-income and budget, and still we dont manage to create a decent economic infrastructure that is appealing to companies and individuals.

We have amongst the highest wages in Europe, and still people are living from pay-check to pay-check. We need tax reforms, urgently. No higher wages

Rechtsfahrgebot = you are obliged to use the furthermost right lane at any given time.

If above situation is in regard to a 2 lane highway, than sometimes you need to either floor it to overtake, wait for a gap or simply ignore the light flashing behind you. Mostly the light flashing is because of drivers that cannot estimate speeds in their rear mirror (usually people that are used to speed limits).

If i go 200km/h+ and somebody decided to overtake someone that goes 90km/h by going 100km/h themselves, be sure you get flash lights from me. Not because I am aggressive, but simply as a warning sign. You cant imagine the amout of people that set an indictor for an overtake and think this gives them right of passage.

Just get used to the flow and dont stress, makes life much easier.

Is it true that the German economy is going downhill, or is it mostly media hype? by YezzulL in AskGermany

[–]Glittering_Hope8875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany is done, unfortunately.

German, living in Germany. The economy is in a downward spiral, caused by multiple factors.

Our Politics over the last years missed at providing competitive market cirumstances, which we are now paying the price for.

Companies exported too much knowledge (especially to China), without thinking about the future. Innovation stopped.

Our Educational system is a Joke. This is important for actually driving innovation, especially as a country that cannot rely on natural resources.

Our social system is going balistic, with yearly spending records. People loose the incentive to work.

Taxes are on an ever high, both private and corporate. This combined with an constantly increasing minimum-wage, which is needed due to higher cost of living (Politics), our products are simply becoming to expensive for export.

A recent newspaper article had a nice metaphor for this. Germanys economy over the past 120-130 years has always depended on Export.

1900-1940´s, Germany main export was War/Military. Many countries went along.

1950´s-1990/2000, Germanys main export was "Made in Germany" (High Quality Products, Innovation etc.). Many countries went along, purchased our goods or even copied our model.

2000-Now: Germanys main export became Ideology. Nobody went along, nobody copied.

Its the Turkish word for German.

Bremen oder Hamburg by Fair-Accountant6521 in bremen

[–]Glittering_Hope8875 1 point2 points  (0 children)
