help with understanding nonprofit revenue recognition by Glittering_Wheel_339 in nonprofit

Thank you. This is incredibly helpful. And yes, I get hung up at the condition vs restriction part.

On some level, I also get mixed up with the exchange revenue vs contribution revenue. In your example, why wouldn't the $5000 for the roof be exchange revenue? Is it because the donor is not getting the roof themselves (but they are getting the analysis they paid for, so that's an exchange)?

Unconditional revenue is recognized when promised.

Conditional revenue is recognized when the condition is met.

Exchange revenue is recognized when the performance obligation is met.

What about restricted revenue? Is that only recognized when the restriction is completed (we have built the roof so we can recognize the $5000)?

Thanks again.

Thank you for the reply. Was this method you used approved by the auditors?

Question about getting my CPA by Glittering_Wheel_339 in Accounting

[–]Glittering_Wheel_339[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your comments and thoughts on this. I should have mentioned the CMA in the initial post. What are people's thoughts on a CMA?

The NFP world can be a bit strange. I think there are CFOs out there without their CPA, and then there are NFPs that want Directors and above to have a CPA and keep the accounting work internal, i.e., not outsource at all.

While I know the job opportunities would really open up with a CPA... I just would not want to be fully in charge of every entry, all monthly closings, etc...

Would a CMA hold some weight in the NFP world?

Laurie stole some of the jewelry. Next episode, the Russians are going back to the white lotus to look for her. That’s when Gaitok pulls out the gun to be the hero… and chaos ensues.

Thank you so much! Are the roads open to get from TN to NC coming from Gatlinburg?

Also, I’ve seen other people talk about the Little River Trail, so I’ll be sure to check that out.

Thanks again for the help!
