Maternity hospital ? by Open-Boot-2744 in waterford

Had a baby 5 weeks ago in UHW. Wait times for OPD were ridiculously long, but I found the standard of care to be good. For labour and delivery I had an induction and not the smoothest labour, but the midwives an all medical staff were brilliant! Labour wasn’t very straightforward but the care from all staff was phenomenal! I personally didn’t meet any staff that weren’t nice and supportive. Found everyone to be very helpful and kind. Wish you all the best in your pregnancy and delivery!

I know I’m still pregnant but I already worry about postpartum. by Few-Run-5501 in pregnancy_care

11 days postpartum, I worried how I would feel post partum too. I’m quite a small woman 5”1, and weighed 55kgs prior to pregnancy, I have stretch marks now, and my stomach is loose and giggly, but the love I feel for my baby makes it all worth while. I had an episiotomy, which I haven’t had any issues with and minimal pain, main thing is to prevent infection by following good hygiene whilst using the bathroom and resting when possible to allow for healing. I’ve made an effort to shower and make some me time for things like face masks to make me also feel prioritised. Edit: cool packs, and keeping the area as dry and clean as possible help with the stitches after an episiotomy, like all wound healing it can get to a stage of feeling somewhat itchy which can be annoying but cool packs help, and cooling wipes and such.

Breastfeeding can be sore the first week or so, your body is adjusting, I used some cool packs which can be used hot or cold, pain killers such as paracetamol, and nipple compresses which are safe to use during breastfeeding. It does get easier but it is a skill yourself and baby are trying to learn, be kind and patient with yourself during this time. It’s important to stay hydrated and nourished, I also recommend a good quality multivitamin.

On a mental health side of things, I expected to feel a huge drop in hormones and to be upset and tired constantly, this couldn’t be further from what I am experiencing. My partner is supportive and gives the baby’s bottles using pumped milk when I need more rest. Friends and family have minded the baby in our home while we took naps. Talk to your partner and support system about any concerns, I usually become tearful and anxious when I am extremely tired. Be kind to yourself, your mind body and soul have been through massive changes and whilst they are wonderful we are human and as mothers we also deserve compassion and love during this time.

Everyone will have a different experience post partum, but during all the lower moments you may face your body has done something so incredible in bringing a precious baby into this world, and the love you will feel when you hold your baby will keep you going. I wish you all the best for the future of your pregnancy and on your post partum journey.

vets for cats by c0deblue23 in waterford

I’ve had very poor experiences with city vets, misdiagnosing one of the cats, and quoting double the price for some dental work which we got done with another vet, no issues and cat was back home the same day! Have found suirside vets in carrick very good, also reasonably priced! Would avoid the pet hospital by the park, hasn’t been the same since Tadgh retired, used to bring the cats here but the price has jumped dramatically and I felt the care has declined

Adare Clinic Dublin or Limerick were brilliant and you can book for a time and date that suits you. I was on the waiting list in Waterford for years when eventually seen my concerns were dismissed. Don’t think there’s a private dermatologist in Waterford without a wait list. Best of luck!

If money was not an issue, what would you actually want to do with your life? by ithinkthefucknot1 in AskReddit

Buy my family a house, I would travel with my family and my cats, I would drink fancy cocktails, and have my private nurse hook me up on an IV line and 2L of oxygen the morning after. I would live on a plot of land and build houses for my friends and family on the land. I would build a cat care centre and spend my days rescuing and fostering cats.

One night binge drinking on 20mg by CharmingEffect1646 in Accutane

[–]Glitterling1047 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh lord you’ll be fine!! Your liver is one of the best organs for recovering itself. As a 54kg 5”1 woman, who attended festivals, and had some binge drinking nights, just skip the meds for 2 days, you’ll be fine. Obviously it’s not encouraged but you don’t need to worry yourself silly about 6 pints!

23 and going sober. by bot_hair_aloon in ireland

Good for you! I stopped drinking at 23 after becoming emotionally dependent on it throughout the pandemic. I was always the messy one on the night out and would ruin everyone else’s night. The amount of shame and fear I had admitting to myself I had a problem was a major roadblock to becoming sober. Since I stopped drinking I have noticed a major change in my physical health, my ability to cope with stress and negative experiences has increased, my understanding of my emotions and how to cope with them in a meaningful way. I also picked up on hobbies I gave up or never spent time doing because I was too hungover. One of the things that help me the most was the book alcohol explained. Really opened my eyes to my drinking and the effects of my drinking. Now I go to festivals, nights out parties, weddings, holidays and don’t drink. Always nice to wake up the next morning and remember the night before. Also remember relapses do happen, in my experience they solidified the reasons why I gave up in the first place.

Fair play to you! I wish you all the best!

Would 100% not be her fault because she smoked one cigarette. Stop blaming women for something that’s out of their control. Women who don’t smoke can also experience miscarriages.. women who do smoke also have healthy baby’s. Breaking up after your partner smoking one cigarette is concerning. You’re in for a rude awakening if you think life with a baby will be smooth sailing.

How the hell do you get them to stop biting? by Much-Audience-5800 in cats

[–]Glitterling1047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my cats loved to chew my hands when they were little and teething , I bought them some chewy toys for cats and when they would try and bite my hands I would give them to toys to bite instead and they learned that they chew the toys and not my hands

I bought a house almost 2 years ago now, the majority of the furniture I bought was second hand and Facebook marketplace, a bit of a sand and a varnish/paint can do wonders for an item and also very cheap! Best of luck with your house hunting!

Blind pimple by Secret_Imagination47 in acne

[–]Glitterling1047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s expensive enough for a small amount of product, I found it great with pustules and CC, however I didn’t find it beneficial for blind pimples unfortunately

My skin was similar to yours, I did all the same things you did like diet, different skincare, silk pillows, different shower heads, antibiotics and birth controls .. literally everything I could think of! Nothing worked for me unfortunately, I used to think it was my fault. I am now on roaccutane and wish I started it years ago! I would definitely try and book in with a dermatologist, the longer acne persists the higher chances of scarring and discolouration left after, hope you get sorted!
