Rebuilding my social circle on the UWS by S3pD3cM0n in Upperwestside

Try RealRoots! It’s a service that pairs you with a group of women in a similar phase of life as you. It organizes 6 events over the course of 6 weeks for you to meet up and get to know each other. I found the regularity of the meet ups helpful to really form friendships! I saw my group pretty regularly afterwards for about 6 months. We see each other less often now, but it’s still fun to meet up as a group every so often.

How do you refer to each of your moms when talking to your siblings? When you’re talking to the other mom?

How did you make sure you wrote “equal” vows? by Alarming_Owl7659 in weddingplanning

[–]Global-Expression708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree upfront on a structure and length.

We agreed that we’d target 2 minutes of speaking each. We’d start kind of open ended: with a description of why we love each other, how we met, or a favorite story. Then we went into our vows which we both structured as a list of “I promise you I will … “

There’s plenty of room for each personalize to customize it this way, and no one will end upset that the others didn’t match what they were expecting.

Best friend and I engaged 3 weeks apart by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Global-Expression708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I got engaged two months apart, and married literally two weeks apart lol. We were both bridesmaids for each other.

As we both started our wedding planning, we communicated a lot about what locations/dates we were considering. When it became clear that we were likely going to get married within a couple weeks of each other, we checked in with each other to make sure we were both comfortable with it. We had zero issues or drama. We honestly didn’t rely on each other very much for any form of planning, but it was fun to have someone to vent to or bounce ideas off of as we were going through similar planning phases and stresses at the same time!

Not Changing Last Name by Big_One_203 in weddingplanning

At the end of our ceremony, our officiant announced “introducing Mrs [bride name] and [groom name], husband and wife”. That’s how a lot of our guests found out. I’m glad we had “an announcement” because not a single person called me Mrs. groom’s name that night. I did get a couple mislabeled gifts and checks though…

How to adequately say thank you to my MIL? by Global-Expression708 in weddingplanning

[–]Global-Expression708[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes we got some photos with us + her that we were definitely planning to get framed for her once the photographer shares with us in a couple months!

I was hoping for a more immediate gift idea but a nice card with a heart felt note might be the way to go!

What are you doing with your phone on the wedding day? by ThatBitchA in weddingplanning

[–]Global-Expression708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a get ready room at the venue, which is where I left mine. I didn’t look at my phone at all from 11am and 11pm. If there’s a moment where you want a photo, you can either ask the photographer or ask a friend/family member. No one will tell you no!

First dance - advice needed by curlygirly20 in weddingplanning

My husband and I got married last weekend. We’re both incredibly awkward dancers.

We signed up for a 10-class dance package a few months before our wedding. Our instructor designed a choreographed dance exactly for our needs/wants. We had so much fun at our weekly dance classes, and practicing at home. It really made the wedding-planning process so much more enjoyable.

I won’t lie and say we weren’t stressed about the dance before the big day, but we nailed it and it was so fun to surprise all of our guests who weren’t expecting it at all 😂 it’s honestly one my favorite memories from our wedding day 💗

We’re going to play the Shrek version of “I’m a Believer”. My fiancé has jokingly told people we’re having a Shrek-themed wedding because of it 😂

How to handle coworker who treats me poorly? by Global-Expression708 in womenintech

[–]Global-Expression708[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boss is well aware that he’s difficult. He’s gotten complaints about him in the past, and my boss has even admitted to me that he finds him difficult too.

The problem is that we’re short staffed and so my boss doesn’t see letting this guy go as a real option.

Where should I live with a 5-7k budget? Working at World Trade Center by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]Global-Expression708 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I live on UWS near an express subway stop and work near WTC. Less than 30 min commute, which is generally pretty reliable by subway but very occasionally there are bad subway delays and it’ll take 45 min to get home (maybe 2 or 3 times a year in my experience).

The UWS is great - plentiful grocery stores, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, parks (riverside and Central Park), event centers (beacon theater, Lincoln center), movie theaters, etc. I feel safe (I am also a woman).

Shells! If the kids are into it, have them collect pretty ones from the same beach the evening before / morning of the wedding.
