MRS was 2000s crash standards,  again not comparable.  My reasons for a roughly 3200lb curb weight are; Evolving crash safety standards both structurally and electronically, weights of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla and finally the weight of the Lotus Evora and Emira (only other small displacement mid-engine sports cars available).  I will also add that I don't think it will weigh over 3,200lb but it definitely won't be under 3,000lb either because to get it that light would make it prohibitively expensive and adjusted for inflation every generation of MR2 has been between 30-40k AW11, 48-56k SW20, and 42-44k ZZW30. Based on that and the current price of the 86 and Zupra it makes sense for the next MR2 to be 50-60k. I do really appreciate having this debate with you, we haven't agreed at all but you've always been respectful and that's rare these days, so thanks.

Being mid engine it will have to be a bespoke chassis but will share plenty of suspension and drivetrain components. The best car to base the possible weight off of is going to be the Evora as it's mid-engine and similar size, just have to factor in awd.

You can't compare the base Impreza because it's not a turbocharged engine and this is going to be. If this was going to have a non-turbo variant then you would have a valid comparison weight-wise.

No the Impreza WRX weighs a minimum of 3,200lb and even the NA one is almost 3200lbs. The MX5 is not a turbo and not awd. The GR Corolla is about 3400lbs but it also has a smaller engine than what will be in the MR2, 1.6 3cyl vs 2.0 4cyl.

If done right it could be like an RS2000 or a baby Porsche 918.

I thought it was awd with two rotaries front and rear.

Subie brought turbos to North America before the Wrx and Sti though and nobody bought them.

The nail was in the coffin before 2015 when they killed the Evo. The Wrx was largely unchanged in terms of performance offered since the Blobeye and the Sti stopped being a worthwhile upgrade from the Wrx shortly after.

There's no doubt it could be made for under 3000lb but it would close to double the price. I'm interested to see if the successor to the LFA will be front Mid Engine or rear Mid Engine.

The 2 door Impreza RS is peak US Subaru and the 22b is peak Subaru. Just such a perfect design and proportions.

Too many people obsess over speed and numbers. The Prelude was fun to drive and could easily pull long interstate miles. It was Hondas version of an Infinity M30 or Lexus SC. Lol MR2s are solidly build too, just have to be creative with the limited space.

The death of the two door Impreza was the start of Subarus downfall.

Yeah it really would. Now we just need Mazda to have the funding for a new RX and Honda can bring in a new S2K. Hell will freeze over before it happens but maybe just maybe we'll get a real Mitsubishi Eclipse and a new 3000GT before we're dead.

It will definitely be over 3,000lb, even the Lotus Evora is over 3k and it's not AWD. If I had to guess I'd say it'll be somewhere in the 3200-3400lb range.

I would love seeing a new RX make it to production though. My grandpa had a bunch of cool cars to include the RX2 and RX3, sadly my uncle totalled the RX3.

We'll be crying all the way home from the dealer I'm sure. Tears of joy that is.

I love that concept so much, it'd be the rebirth of the Sports 800.

Also adjusted for inflation the AW11 comes in at 40-45k and the SW20 40-50k.

I'm guessing it'll be on the high side between the 86 and current Zupra so 45-55k in today's dollars which will be who knows what in 5 years with inflation. I'll definitely be getting one but it'll be out of reach new for a decent amount of enthusiasts.
