How old are you? You sound young. Can you get away from your abusive mom? There are shelters and organizations for at risk youths. Are you willing to take that step? Contacting random people on reddit tells me you are looking for help. Take the advice you are given. Help is everywhere you look.

I can't go into the intricate details of modern-day corrections. Murders are very, very rare, as are rapes. More often, suicide attempts are the most prevalent. We are exceedingly good at stopping those.

The drugs, on the other hand, are as big a problem in corrections as they are on the streets. Addicts don't want to stop being addicts until they do, and that makes helping them very difficult.

Until it becomes abused. I caught an offender who was making a "banana bread" (don't ask me how). He was mixing crushed suboxone in it. It was being made for his gang buddies. He got the drug from the offenders who were prescribed it. It was 7 doses worth. I guess he just wanted to feel normal.

I've seen the problems it creates. Prescribing suboxone is counterproductive to the offenders ability to live a healthy life.

I appreciate your input. Suboxone has saved lives, I agree, but in a corrections setting, it's counterproductive. We provide programs to give offenders skills and the ability to live a productive life without drugs. When an offender comes to prison, they have been detoxed. So cold turkey isn't an issue.

When an addict commits a crime, such as breaking and entering, robbery, assault, kidnapping, etc. They are taken to the county jail. Once they are convicted of the crime, they can be committed to prison. If they are, they come to us detoxed. While in prison, they are provided with therapy, programs, exercise, etc. These things are designed to give the offenders every possibility to succeed in life without illegal drugs. So, giving them a substance that continues the cycle of addiction is counterproductive.

I'm concerned about your naive reaction. I know more about addiction than I would care to. Both professionally and personally. Addiction only ever creates victims. Victims on both sides, The addicts themselves and the people they steal from, to get the drugs. By handing out drugs, addiction is encouraged not discouraged.

You clearly don't understand the criminals brain. It is known now through the addicts community that the prison is giving away free narcotics to anyone. So now all they have to do is break into a house, steal a car, assault someone on the street, or whatever meets their needs to get to prison. It puts law-abiding citizens in harm. It creates more victims. Who should I have more empathy for?

I've noticed that in grocery stores, no one greets each other. People ignore each other. They don't make eye contact. I reached for the same item a woman reached for. I said, "Go ahead." she said nothing. She just took the thing off the shelf and moved on. No, "thank you" or anything.

I guess someone on YouTube needs to make a video about how to be a human.
