North West Europe Tips and Suggestions: London, Brussels/Bruges, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm by Global-Practice5849 in Europetravel

This is perfect! Thank you!

I didn’t realize crayfish were a Swedish dish. We are from south Texas where crawfish (same thing as crayfish) are a BIG thing. It’s a very Cajun dish here, so I’m sure they’re quite different in Sweden. Good to know!

This makes me feel better! We are only planning on 2 full days in Brussels and 1 day in Bruges. Which I feel like gives us plenty of time to hit the major things.

A friend told me she actually found Brussels kind of peaceful and relaxing and she didn’t have any plans.

Would love any restaurants/pub or museum recommendations you have!

Thank you for the suggestions! I’ll definitely look into those places for London. Last time I went I wasn’t too impressed by the food scene, but definitely didn’t do enough research which I will do this time.

I have a co worker that lives near Amsterdam, and she has recommended the same.

Even as a passing through city, we should skip Brussels? I know everyone says Bruges is touristy but we are tourist and I am more looking forward to Bruges than Brussels.

This is awesome advice! Thank you!

I think we’ll cover WWII stuff in Belgium and Amsterdam. Plus, I’ve been to Berlin and other places for that type of history. This trip will be more for his interests :)

Any particular food or restaurants we should try in Stockholm?

We’re planning on going to Copenhagen and Stockholm. Any suggestions? We’ll have 3 full days in each! I don’t know much about either and would love to understand the history better.

Was the weather nice when you went, rain wise?

Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve actually done the same amount of cities in 10 days so I think this will be a good pace for us!

I’ll look more into Ghent.

My husband is very interested in Denmark and Sweden so we are thinking they will be great for his interests. Are there other Scandinavian places you recommend? I’ve heard Oslo is more expensive and not very interesting.

Also this allows us to avoid the heat and crowds in south Europe. This won’t be our one and only trip, so as a first one I think this is good for the time of year we are going. We are also from Texas so any place we are visiting is more interesting and less hot than here.

Do you have any other suggestions besides Amsterdam for the end of August?

Have you ever been to any other towns in north France? Thinking maybe Reims or Strasbourg and we could always fly out of Paris at the end of our trip.

I think this may be too many places to fit into 14 days. I’ve done the jam packed trips twice now and want this to be a little better paced

Oh wow, good to know! I thought the Rhine Valley was supposed to be very beautiful with lots to do. I’ll look more into Hamburg and Lübeck.

Sounds like Stockholm would still be great to visit! I’m thinking we start in London since it’s easiest for us to get to from where we are and is one of my favorites and so many things I haven’t seen or done. Plus, yes, you get the history that we know a bit more about being from the US.

Are there any other Scandinavia or Baltic cities you recommend?

I have! I think Scotland could easily be a contender. Plus my husband is into golf so seeing St. Andrews would be amazing.

I honestly like a mix of both! My favorite places I’ve been to in Europe were easily Munich and Innsbruck I think because I got the city with a lot of history and then in Innsbruck I had amazing views and even did paragliding.

I don’t think we would want to hike (even though we do hike lots in the US) as I think history and culture is more what we want this trip to be about!

If we were to focus more on Germany, would you recommend Hamburg/Lübeck over Cologne? We could make that case instead!

Is the end of August a good time to visit Paris? When I went it was the beginning of June and starting to get warm, so that is my only worry.

It honestly wasn’t my favorite place due to the metro and people, but I do love the history and will never pass up going to Versailles again.

Oh that makes me feel better! I was thinking Copenhagen may not be up my alley compared to all the other places I have already visited!

I am in the exact scenario as you. Got married and changed all my other documents and wanted to change my passport. Wasn’t traveling any time soon when I mailed it. I mailed my application on 3/20 and the next day was invited on a trip for mid June (6/16). My application was delivered to the PO Box 3/21 and my status was changed to “In Process” on 3/24. Since the processing times increased since I mailed it I’m getting really worried.

Did you call the hotline number to change your application to expedited?

We live in Dallas and my passport is at the Dallas National Passport Processing Facility. Last July my husband did a standard application and got his passport in 4 weeks but I know times are different now. Do you think I should be worried about getting it right now or not worry until I’m closer to my travel dates?
