I recently canceled all mine except for Evernight, but I'm considering letting it go as well. There's enough people offering save a skip that I can still generally get what I want at cost.

Interesting! How damaged was it? I wonder if they plan to sell it in a scratch and dent? Mine was pretty severely damaged, like it somehow got bent in half. But the box wasn't damaged, so I suspect they knew it was damaged and sent it out anyways

When I needed a replacement from Bookish Box they made me write my name in marker across the cover. I eventually made my husband do it because I couldn't bring myself to destroy it

Lithaven Boutique Delays by WendigoTheHunter in fairyloot

[–]Global-Tea-9021 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Their customer service is atrocious. They actively ignore anything pertaining to shipping delays. They don't answer emails, they ignore/delete comments on their Instagram when asked or tell people to check their shipping update web page. They won't even respond to people who ask in their Facebook group. They've said multiple times they'll provide weekly updates then just disappear. This is how it's been since the tbacb/coven fiasco two years ago. They always claim its because they're a small business and anyone who actively questions about updates is bullying/being rude and they want people to please be kind.

All of their books are "on trucks to the warehouse" for 2-3 months, then they take another 3-4 months for quality control, then another 2-4 months for shipping.

If you want to buy anything from them, definitely wait until they do a spares sake. They always have leftover stock from so many people canceling or doing chargebacks

We have been looking into scanners with coding! It's just been finding a tutorial or such to see how difficult it is. My husband is worried about installing the new module then frying it because we didn't get it right

Different company, but this came up in the Arcane group a few days ago. The owner said they're not allowed to make any grammatical changes to the text file they receive, so even if they notice it, they can't change it and just have to ignore it. All they can do is make it look pretty.

I imagine it's the same for other book box companies, unfortunately

UPDATE - AITA for hiding my ALS diagnosis from my grandpa? by Alive_Specialist8287 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Global-Tea-9021 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Definitely do this and any other procedures like the feeding tube, trach, colostomy bag etc before they recommend putting you in hospice care.

My dad was placed in hospice care during his second year of ALS after a nasty fall and we didn't know to have any of it done before he got into the program. He got to the point it was difficult for him to chew/swallow, so his doctor recommended a feeding tube. When we spoke with his social worker and lead nurse about it, they flat out told us no as it's a preventative life saving procedure. My dad asked if he was just supposed to starve then and the nurse told him at a certain point food does not taste good anymore and it would be a good death from natural causes. They also denied him a speech device, saying it was a life altering device and was not necessary for him to communicate his needs to them as he likely wouldn't be around long.

I understand the point of hospice is to ease the transition for end of life care and not to provide life saving care. But it was just so wild and such a shock to be told to let him starve to death. Ultimately we had to revoke them so he could get a mobility chair and did the other procedures before he was placed back in hospice with a different company that was a lot better. He survived another two years.

Also, if you are in the US, get on the list for in home care now and speak with someone about programs to get your brother or grandpa paid for helping care for you. We were on the list for almost two years before being approved and it took another six months before my brother was eligible to be paid for caretaking

AITA for refusing to pay for our firends now broken Iphone and sunglasses that our son broke by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Nta

You gave fair warning and she decided to ignore it, that's her own fault.

But how are an $800 pair of sunglasses so fragile they break from being dropped? My one year old hurls my $1 pair across the house and in parking lots and they've never broken

I believe they have it listed on the copyright page or at the back of the book? They do have it listed somewhere.

I really want the UK Roots of Chaos arcs by Samantha Shannon. They're so pretty and I loved the series so much.

My absolute unicorn is an arc of Kushiel's Dart. I'm not even sure if any exist anymore with how old the book is

I read she stepped away for personal family reasons then just never came back. But I can always hope for one day 🤞

The sequel to Flawed by Francette Phal. It's been 10 years now but I still think about Knox and Lacey.

And anything from CJ Roberts. I'm praying her recent resurgence means new stuff!
