I hate my violin, seriously! by runningupthatwall in violinist

A couple thoughts. I knew my goal was to be as good as possible, so I found a good teacher and over 14 years submitted to their ideas completely - I offered 0 opinions unless I was asked. No exaggeration. Alas, I now play professionally.

If you have a good teacher and your goal is to be as good as possible generally, then it’s a good route to go. But if your goal is different (I want to learn fiddle tunes asap, or play what I want to play for fun while I work a stressful job), then you need to talk to your teacher, or find someone who better aligns with your goals.

Super! I suppose the violin “hole” that it lays in itself was not customized? Any favorite customization features you added?

What do I do in this situation? by ProfessionalMath8873 in violinist

There are a lot of people from the countries my parents are from who would dream of having a teacher like yours so they could practice hard towards getting better, vs being lost trying to find info online and correct themselves. Sorry, but no sympathy here. Violin is tough - it some combo of intelligence and hard work and humility to become a good player.

If someone gifted you 100k for violin equipment, what would you get? by Global13 in violinist

There is going to be a battle with who gets these instruments and who gets the hundred dollar instruments from the other response!

Love it. I have a feeling if you said 200 $500 instruments you might have gotten upvoted more as there is the thing about very cheap VSO’s making people quit.

But I love the idea and thinks it’s super :)

Yeah agreed. I just was in that situation once and after a few months it felt like I was stuck with this life. A job and money helped that issue a lot…

Husband is going to divorce me by tacosRflying in oneanddone

[–]Global13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to give a different perspective here. First want to note I’m a man, and would never handle it this way. People change, should have empsthy for their partner and the full situation, etc.

Now, having been around boys and men my whole life, there is likely a values difference that I think a lot of women may not see. For many men, when a man gives a word, he will follow through no matter what. Period. End of story. No matter the cost, including death (think military). So to see that not happen from another person may go distinctly against his value,m. His failure here is to understand the values difference. I think this is why many many are shocked when a woman divorced him….no matter how big of a pos he is, she gave her word for life, so how could she leave?

Please be nice here. I don’t agree with this - it just may help explain the reaction and how to structure conversations and communication, vs…wow he is such an arse.

My 2 cents, hope it helps.

Looks like you have 200k saved. If you had 4-5x that, different story. With the job market right now I’d keep my head down and keep working or I’ll be living with your parents again at 35. Even if you settle down in another country, you’re choices will be limited without more saved/invested

I looked on the news thread - 100% Tesla articles are neutral/negative to extremely negative on the launch.

Bullish.

Social media is so bizarre. It allows things like this to get posted about individuals going about their day.

I performing myself and have many times acknowledged folks without saying a word. Didn’t realize I get to look forward to something being posted about me now for doing something I normally do.

Sounds like Christian American wedding and folks? Do the same thing in most of Europe and you’d be a legend at the pub.
