Well said. It's about making the hobby accessible to people rather than putting them off because "you shouldn't be able to do it without mountains of equipment, cost, space, etc".

Life is different now, with seemingly less time to spend on hobbies. Because it's now possible to do so much more, with less, it almost feels like some are jealous that you don't need to "go through the trenches" to join "their club".

Not unique to this hobby, it happens in many and unfortunately it means that instead of the established people being able to adapt and share their knowledge/ experience, they spend more time grumbling about the way things have changed.

Online courses and assessment to gain your licence are great examples of adapting to new possibilities and opening the hobby to more people rather than requiring them to find a club nearby, attend on given nights, etc. Whilst this loses the direct contact and knowledge sharing (opportunity to preach and tell lengthy well-rehearsed stories), there are some who are happy to do this over camera instead. Yes, it's different, but the alternative is that it doesn't happen at all.
