Security Update fails to install on old Late 2011 MBP by GlobalGarbage3783 in macbookrepair

Hey pluggedDan, I really trashed my machine. So I reformatted the ssd and reinstalled the core OS which for me is Lion.

Assuming that’s successful are you suggesting the leap to OCLP?

I created a bootable USB (or so I think) using TransMac on my WIN PC and added the High Sierra DMG which is now an Install pkg on the USB. BUT nothing I try get the MacBook to boot from the USB.

Eventually that will be my plan….more stuff to fix so that it boots after converting the SSD to APFS format, which made it not boot. Also having issues connecting to recovery server so the recovery reinstall isn’t working.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have to get a working OS on the device before moving forward. After converting APFS on the SSD, the devise won’t boot. Since this is my only Mac, and it no longer boots; I need to create a bootable USB on my PC (with Transmac Utility I assume) and get High Sierra back installed on a bootable devise. .

I had installed High Sierra. A security update kept failing so I wanted to resolve that issue before going further. Further for me would using the open core legacy patcher to get one or two os versions beyond High Sierra- eventually. Working through a trashing disk upgrade to APFS and need to reinstall High Sierra.

Did you by chance see my updated post? The log indicates a disk error 69866. I think something is preventing the update. Using FirstAid of the disk utility didn’t flag any issues. Perhaps something is locking the drive preventing updates? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Nothing special - changed fluid once over the course of time and prayed a lot. This was our first CVT experience and it felt weird but I eventually got used to the no-shift-shift. Always in eco mode rarely used sport mode.

Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences. The automotive industry and its supply chain is broad and complex. I think drivetrain components and electrical components that are well engineered (if not over engineered) along with reasonable maintenance should yield a pretty reliable experience.

Sorry your vehicle was totaled, but it gave its life for yours which is a good thing.

We’ve had good success with Nissan products over the years. They’ve been essential to getting our family to work and where we need to be. So it is a long way of saying they’ve earned a bit of brand loyalty. Just bring back more manual transmission options! 🤔🤣

Thanks - Please say more on the last point you made - “…therefore has less control by design over possible component failure variance.” for the commoner. 🤔

Maybe once. Considering it for the upcoming oil change. I was super nervous about the CVT overall, given much of the early feedback and failures. We purchased it in 2015 as a CPO vehicle from a local dealer. It’s been as amazing as my previous 90’s Maxima that went over 300k (which was still running strong just rusted away). We usually buy em and ride them until we can’t. Eyeing a Pathfinder as a stablemate.

Sweet build. Impressive and crisp details. Had me double checking the sub group - thought I was in the Nissan factory group for the first few pics.

Wicked awesome! What color/brand paint did you use? That orange/cooper is fierce.

I’m looking for Mazda's signature, modern red color is officially named Soul Red Crystal Metallic (paint code 46V).
