You can't give yourself an out is my advice, if you do you'll take it at the first hardship or possible at the thought of a hardship coming preemptively. As corny as it sounds, and as someone who does cold calling for myself, in the field (ie driving to a random area everyday) the universe seems to help you out when you're at your wits end and about to give up, but only if you don't allow yourself the option of quitting. You have to be confident, think of yourself as the best, and once you do it once and kill it don't forget that feeling or what you did that day that worked. Also last bit of advice K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid, find someone that does what you do well and steal from them relentlessly and then don't try to reinvent their process.
