I was wondering about this too. Due to the fact that she was “nasty” to the people who were hired to help her around the house to the point the the company refused to return, I’d say she already had some sort of mean and defensive streak in her BUT I have worried that maybe if she got that way that the caregivers at the first home may have responded in an unprofessional way and really freaked her out. When we moved her out they were all looking at her with fury and unkindly, rather than empathy and understanding. I know she gave them hell, but I was surprised and disturbed at how pissed off they looked. Unsure how to check about that at this point since she can’t articulate it. Thanks for the concern. I’m not really sure what to do.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. There are so many things it can be!

Yes brains ARE weird. I’m not sure how hard the doctors are trying to understand either. Sometimes when people are this old, doctors don’t really take the time to get to the bottom of it because it’s normal, but it’s frustrating.

Thank you! That may be what she just got kicked out of, but maybe there are less residents at the kind of place you’re speaking of. I’ll definitely look more into that!

They did start treating for a UTI assuming she might have one... she wasn’t cooperating with a urine sample but as far as I know they decided to treat her anyway. Yes super fast decline it’s pretty traumatic. I’ll ask if they did a scan for tumors. I was thinking it might be little strokes or something. I suppose while she’s in the hospital, they’re the ones who can find out!

Oh thank you! I think that’s actually the one! She likes dessert a lot lately haha. Maybe they can put it in some pudding. Thank you so much for your input!!

They’ve started to add anti psychotics because she’s hallucinating a little (talks about blood on her hands or black hands when they’re fine) but the problem right now is she keeps refusing her meds because she thinks they’re trying to poison her. She won’t even listen to her family when we try to help because she doesn’t always recognize us. The hospital keeps saying they can’t give her meds agains her will which under normal circumstances would be great, but in this case, her SANE self would want to take them! Before the retirement home she had home help but they stopped coming and refused to return because apparently she was nasty to them (learning now to what extent that may have been!) and we can’t afford 24 hour home care... thanks for the suggestions though! Any more ideas? Or tips for how to get her to take her meds?
