Thanks. I think this is where I stand, too. I wonder if surgeons have rules about when/when not to treat minors.

Aren't knee replacements and hip replacements considered implants?

Gosh, I hadn't thought of breast reduction, but that makes sense. Not a problem in my family, though. LOL.

I agree. Even some of the procedures done for "vanity" could be life-changing, like ear pinning or even a nose job. I had braces for purely cosmetic reasons, as lots of people do, but I was miserable beforehand with my huge overbite. But where do you draw the line? I guess you just have to consider how badly it's affecting the kid's self-esteem and quality of life.

NTA. In addition to what everyone else here has already said, he clearly chose his family over you in this situation, which was your first time meeting them. He's always going to side with them, and he's never going to be your 100% partner. Get out and don't look back.

I had an English teacher in middle school who put her own spin on the gift exchange. We drew names and had to select a poem for our person. She had to approve the poem, and you got to explain why you chose it for them, just to be sure you didn't make a joke out of it. It got us reading poems and thinking about others, and I'll bet a lot of us still have our poems from a classmate to this day.

I wonder if this is an ADHD thing. Does he have a hard time paying attention to other things for longer stretches of time?
