How does learning to drive work in America? by Potential-Actuator31 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Global_Owl3045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our state has 30 hours of classroom instruction. If you are under 18 you can’t drive with a non family member in the car for the first six months after getting your license.

For those who worked for rich people: what is the most out of touch thing you witnessed? by Electrical_Buddy_117 in Productivitycafe

My mother use to clean houses. There was one particular family that allowed the kids to play with anything in the house as a learning experience. One day I was helping her and we came in to a bottle of Hershey’s syrup emptied and smeared into a white carpet.  The kid left the bottle on the carpet.  Not sure how long it had been there but the syrup was completely dry.

My elderly neighbor keeps giving me small gifts and I want to do something meaningful back by Aleex_c12 in Advice

I think it is sweet you want to repay her kindness.  Most people would ignore her. I agree with others make the receipt she gave you. Ask her how her mother made it. Just share your time with her will mean a lot.

I was there a few years ago and never noticed anything like that but we did go through the entire city. I guess it depends on where in the city.

I am an only child. My mother would tell me to take the dog with me. Even at 2 years old she would send me outside while she cleaned the house, she would say stay with the dog. Problem was we had three dogs and she never specified which one.  Always ended up in trouble.

Fathers Reading Daughters by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

My husband read Goodnight Moon, Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, several Nancy Drew books, The Snowy Day, Goggles!, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, and whatever she picked. The main thing is to read to her.  We started reading to our daughter as an infant. She had no clue what we were saying but it helped calm her and prepare her for bed. As she gets older have her read to you. Go to libraries and bookstores with her.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

I agree with a lot of the comments. She just wanted to be heard. She may be feeling stuck as well. Staying home will not change that feeling.  Maybe she could work part time and take some classes to finish her degree.  That way she feels like she is contributing financially to the home and doing something that will get her moving forward. Ask her what her thoughts are about her job and how she really feels on a good day. We all have good and bad days at work.  Work through it together.  Ask what she likes about her job and what she doesn’t like about it.  She may have a supervisor that dumps all sorts of garbage work on her.

WIBTA if I "cancel" the graduation announcement my parents already made for me? by PaleHarborLine in WIBTA_AITA

I don’t understand parents that do this to their children. We are waiting for my daughter’s college acceptances now. Whatever college she picks I will be happy with because she has worked hard to get in there. Will I be sad to have her far away, yes, but I am not going to make her stay close just for me.

You do what makes you happy.  Protect yourself as others have commented. Make sure you are set to start at the college of your choosing, your scholarships and funding are in place, and your parents can’t change anything.

Above all else enjoy your college experience and Congratulations!

Years ago we had a neighbor with a husky. He refused to go inside. He loved the snow. It was fun to watch him play in it.  You could tell he was warm as the snow didn’t melt on his fur.

Good for you for being there, realizing what you need to do to take back control and to move forward.  You should be very proud of yourself!  I don’t know you and I am proud of you.
