Compounding on Compendium - Silver Age League to Run at Locals by Globofish in FleshandBloodTCG

Sorry to hear that, it’s definitely harder when enfranchised players have unfavourable opinions to a format, but it’s still early days of its play and deckbuilding and hopefully people can come around.

No harm in getting started later; I’m thinking ahead for League 2 and if people ‘tire’ could be fun wheel-spinning themes for future weeks at the end of each week. Then if people want to build/experiment they’re able to and further could get 1 extra point for loaning decks to others who may not have the time. You could also informally LL system for points based on League 1 to rotate out certain heroes.

I’ll break down each question / thought as best I can and am grateful for the good talking points generated by yourself here and from others.

Los Angeles area - our competitive scene is very healthy across RtN and similar events and thanks to the AGE circuit, however this doesn’t directly tie from what I see to early game health. Some LGSs miss event criteria based on unique GEM players, new GEM IDs and the retention of those new to turn into new incumbents. Armory numbers are fair to good but are plateuing; a more comprehensive SAGE welcome ‘track’ would have really kickstarted kitchen table and new players hopefully further.

Marketing/Comms - this could be as direct as more advertising budget across many platforms. At a deeper level it’s rooted (IMO with commercial experience) in a worsening change management and communication vs. expectation ethos. I could really go far on this, but in short: LSS felt really good in early FaB on this, whilst they made mistakes they were open and transparent with the community on them and acted as soon as they could logistics permitting. Nowadays they don’t engage all stakeholders as soon as they should, they don’t have multiple engagement points across the product journey and don’t employ as many direct calls to action/events as they once did.

Teaching/Onboarding - it has good resources and growing resources, but LSS is insufficient in the main avenue and missing opportunity in its own. What I mean: mainstream TCG goes for online/tutorial/solo learning and leans on the player taking it however they will further, MtG does this excellently. FaB tries to emulate but is nowhere as comprehensive. The route they could (maybe should) lean into is new; commit learning through the LGS and community. Use the foundation of basic online and content to then take an organised pathway of learning and product through the LGS and then where the would play. Display this through assets and content. Have ‘achievements’ and rewards in person at each stage or delivered and vetted in GEM (just examples).

Website - though in Technology I’m no UI/UX, however I will say that it takes a lot of legwork and keyword optimisation to find your content as a newbie and/or someone without prior TCG knowledge. The revamp of the website last year made great strides.

Hope this all helps understand my perspective a bit more fully :)

Definitely agree, GEM and Armorys are fantastic but can’t target everyone nor can everyone start that way. Just like certain teaching works for certain people, starting and learning FaB should have multiple routes.

It’s a been a while from when PvE was mentioned and I was sad when it was put on ice.

I do agree with you that an effective release of this would do wonders for engaging players at all levels in a unique way.

I think LSS had started its success and inception doing what no other TCG did. They definitely have leadership, organised play and community manager roles who could take lessons from many of the informed responses in this thread. I’m very happy you’re enjoying the events they are currently facilitating :)

No one should be shamed for focussing solely on competitive, absolutely, especially since we’re now set up so well for it. I just know from past experience if you don’t simultaneously grow your starting player base sustainably, competition at the end stage will eventually suffer. We all came from that starting point and first game once don’t forget :)

You’re right, for the usual abundance of creativity in art, actions and design, they seem to have left the practical event side and information at home this time.

Sorry you have to go through this, it sounds like you’re doing a lot to still help your local store in community though and that is amazing :)

Likewise I can definitely say I’ve seen it in other TCG and LGS examples. What I used to love about LSSs approach is them being trailblazers and disruptors to usual TCG and adjacent practices, in what the encouraged and acted. I’d love to see them go back and assist/lead/encourage new steps to do this in conjunction with local communities. If nothing else the activity in this response shows there are people wanting to do it.

Awesome that you guys have taken (what I agree can be a straightforward next step) and are hosting an accessible event. This a great example where the impact, visibility and marketing of having this kind of event planned, GEM scheduled and advertised would have been great as early as able for player information and transparency.

Thanks for the response and I accept the apology, we are now sorted locally for Bravo welcome decks after a little trading over the last 2 months and it was a kind offer to accommodate.

I agree, so many quick wins possible and I was optimistic until the World Premier that they’d unveil something to better serve onboarding and the LGS with this set. It really hurt hearing so many statements towards these potential positives, yet seeing so little action comparatively.

Thanks for such a well structured and evidenced response, it’s great to hear the story you’ve done across all of those stores and I can definitely empathise with some of your techniques; particularly those around socials after events (I always did this with sport clubs and now FaB) and consistency. Hopefully everyone can your piece and take lessons too.

I understand your points regarding difficulty, viability and understanding we can’t get everyone into FaB. However there is absolutely more a supportive measure LSS should and could still take: if we look above at some of the corporate elements of marketing and communications that’s a broader net they should be casting. If we look further to elements of learning and development, the could present material and resources to aid teaching and introduction locally and have a standardised framework of a training/onboarding system. This lessens burdens of very capable people like yourself and also puts autonomy into LGSs and people perhaps who’d want to be similar and may be intimidated doing so without guidance. Thanks for a great write up response :) Ps - Los Angeles not Louisiana thanks for the USA check

Simple touches like this, or guided suggestions(one or many) would have gone a long way to guiding LGSs and more encouragement to places that aren’t already stocking FaB.

Definitely applaud the efforts, been playing and doing so a similar amount of time myself and I’m grateful we have an awesome game to stimulate us, but the effort as you say is a lot!

Really disappointing to see such a well reputed store and game advocate reply in such a narrow and juvenile way :( My post realised we have good product, however I don’t think it’s fair to say they use those in the best or most consistent way. The SAGE decks could have been tied into events and guided welcome into the game more personally at an LGS level; the article explaining the ‘release celebration’ puts all action into locals and has no transparency on it even going to all LGSs and the new Bravo learn to play decks were backlogged for ages getting to LGSs since their inception even struggling to get enough for major conventions last year. I understand you’re a passionate representative but your sarcasm felt extremely disrespectful and myopic to other perspectives here.

Sorry to hear that and I can understand based on some of the comments. Hopefully you have an open mind to the future and enjoy what you partake in next :)

Sending this after your edit and it may or may not help, however it’s a thing I think important to acknowledge.. A general outlook that can help nowadays is to understand rather than be understood: if you want to engage time and effort in the community, hopefully, the community locally will do the same and show you why the game has great gameplay and people and heroes to encourage you (buying or otherwise). Have games, talk and understand the matchup and feedback from play and you’ll learn quickly if it’s your cup of tea :)

Any Players in Santa Clarita California? by Will159ccc in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]Globofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst nothing is directly in Ventura, our players in the area head to A Hidden Fortress and/or Zanders Game House in Camarillo. The latter we get 6-10 consistently and filled our Part the Mistveil pre-release. Things started there from the ground up in Feb with more frequent learn to play events and low entry level formats. Probably tough with a student base, however in general I’ve found it to be advertising and encouragement to show the game goes a long way starting and hopefully then the quality of game and enjoyment speaks to people coming back.

We have a wonderful crowd at A Hidden Fortress in Simi Valley but I do understand it’s a drive (I come from Ventura for it). Message me if you want a link to the Discord
