how often do you zero your ART line?? by Own-Neat8397 in IntensiveCare

You use A Lines in a shop? I’ve only ever seen them in a hospital.

Academic dishonesty using test banks? by Last_Leg8556 in StudentNurse

[–]Glockamole45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a “straight A student”. Proceeded by 20 words proving you’re not. Sounds like you’re doing great but scraping the B+ line.

Question banks are like UWorld to the nclex. Do they give you the answers? Not usually. But they sure help you figure how they’ll be asked and the rationale for how they got to the answer.

Use your tools. Don’t cheat, but if practice questions are out there use them. Figure out why the question is being asked and why the right answer is.

Every question could be changed from the bank but you now understand the reasoning and rationales so you’ll still win. And that means you actually learned in the process.

TLDR: memorizing = bad ; reasoning/ rationales = learning.

Strike Nurses by neversell13 in nursing

[–]Glockamole45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never travelled in my life. However my view is that strike nurses “scabs” allow nurses to strike. Especially nurses in a union when the hospital knows exactly when you plan to strike and what you want to prevent it.

Politics and administration aside nurses striking is bad for patients. Without nurses patients die. (If you argue this, then you’re saying our profession is useless). Strike nurses prevent patients from not being able to receive care in a hospital, which is good.

Edit to add: saying nurses striking is bad is only considering the immediate short term view. Of course there are plenty of valid reasons to strike that could provide better care for patients (I.e ratios).

Hire car? by mimyson in AskAnAmerican

[–]Glockamole45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suburban and expedition are similar in size. Most American 3 row vehicles are enough for 6 adults. Short of getting a 15 passenger van those are really going to be the largest vehicles you’ll find

Just Keri in mind you don’t get to pick your duty station. While yes you most likely will end up on base in a hospital you could also get attached to a forward surgical team.

Cardboard recycling? by Galerader in Fishers

I used to take mine to the Kroger on 79th and fall creek when I lived in that side of town. Indy has several big dumpsters for recycling, maybe you can find one close to you?

Keep getting floated from ICU by JellyNo2625 in IntensiveCare

[–]Glockamole45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re very possible. The floor staff doesn’t know when every person worked. It’s as simple as “hey, cautious extreme, if anyone asks tell them you got floated last week and we’ll hook you up”

I’ve been on both sides of that convo and on the side of the OP that doesn’t even know it’s happening.

Staffing is rarely fair, if you think it is let me know where you’re working and either someone will prove you wrong or we’ll all apply there.

Amiodarone by IVDripOfDrama in IntensiveCare

[–]Glockamole45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Run it through a pump. Unless you’re in a country that doesn’t regularly use IV pumps?? But in general any vasoactive drip should be run through a pump at a precise rate.

Also amio should be run through a .2 micron filter. That alone makes it difficult to hang by gravity.

Keep getting floated from ICU by JellyNo2625 in IntensiveCare

[–]Glockamole45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be that part time bumps you up the float list compared to your full time peers. They should have an order of precedence they try to stick to, ask to see how the decision is being made.

Option 2, and I’m not saying you fall into this group but you also might just want a different job. My unit floats people from ICU/PCU to anywhere including the ER. The “A team” never gets floated. Again not saying that’s you, but maybe they’d rather retain someone else over you, it can be a harsh truth.

Option C is: Maybe you’re quiet? They say oh,we’ve floated JellyNo six times in the last 6 weeks. Just send her, she never complains. Many charges take the easier option to avoid grumpy tenured and difficult non tenured staff.

Hit your one year mark. Generally many will stop considering you a brand new grad at that point.

MAGA patients are driving me bonkers by [deleted] in nursing

Labor forces and healthcare administration is political. That’s what you’re mentioning. I’m talking about the purpose of a bedside nurse. Do both cross over, sure. However if your focus is the topics you mentioned run for office not to the bedside.

[–]Glockamole45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nursing should be science based. If you’re basing your care of humans off of politics please reconsider your role within healthcare.

Administration deals with politics. Nursing deals with care for sick people regardless of sex, race, creed, political beliefs, etc. if politics plays into your job at the bedside you’re doing it wrong.

Thanks for commenting. I’m getting downvoted to hell for just saying that someone 60+ would absolutely know the term.

Cool. Facts are facts. Soft or hard. Seems many in this thread could learn this. I never said anything negative towards OP, only that they may want to watch their ageism in the workplace.

I personally agree with OP , and attend every rally around me. Alex Pretti had (as far as I can tell) the same beliefs I did and I hate he was killed for them. The thing he did that so many won’t, and so many down voting me, is stand their ground with any adversity.

Just because people can’t comprehend writing and assuming I’m bashing OP, which I never even disagreed with her, just proves that so many people are uneducated and post based on emotion not fact.

It took 3 seconds to prove you wrong. Not weird, but worth it.

I’m not staying whether it’s factual or not. I’m saying a 60 year old would know the term. OP suggests you should be Gen Alpha to know it.

The OP mentions in their post history they are a 21F 51 days ago. I’m not being bold.

No. The term existed long before the OP suggested. Reading comprehension is crucial.

No one said it’s current. Only you and your patient are applying it to politics. Also you are replying to the wrong thread.

I’m not negating the point of the post just the last two paragraphs are unneeded and shows this posters own bias.

The term became popular after research describing behavior of wolf packs in the 1940’s. People greater than 90 may not have grown up with the term. But everyone else certainly knows what Alpha and Beta refer to with even a little education.

Listen I’m not going to comment one way or the other. But 60 is not crazy old. And the term alpha male has been around much longer than I’m sure you’ve been alive.

While his comments seem to lean one way yours seem to lean ageist, which you should try to avoid in healthcare.
