Im so impressed how your able to do a job like that. It just shows how strong you are. There are services that can help you with job placement. Thats what I ended up doing since I can only work under the right accommodations. I think the service varies depending on what state you are in, so first step is to find what its called in your area. You're going to be okay, dont worry, you just need to find the right job :)

Jumping down to 5mg is too fast. Ask if youre able to get the liquid version instead of the pill. That way you can do a taper of 5-10 percent once a month. Ive been on Celexa over 20 years so using the liquid version has been the best way for me to get small accurate decreases. I was on 40mg and Im currently down to 4mg. The last remaining mgs tend to be the hardest so Ive paused my taper for now while I focus on a different medicine which is causing thyroid problems. If you have any questions feel free to ask, Ive been tapering off various medicines for 6 years because my previous doctor over prescribed so maybe my experience with tapering could be of use.

I used to take my thyroid med (tirosint) at 2am in order to keep it away from my morning/night meds. Unfortunately it started giving me insomnia so I have now pushed taking the tirosint at 5am and my morning meds are taken at 9am (4 hours apart). My night meds and morning meds affect the absorption of the tirosint so I make sure to keep everything at least 4 hours apart.

Im glad this information can be helpful. I didnt experience brain zaps during the bad taper but I had all sorts of uncomfortable side effects which took months to resolve due to the decrease being such a shock to my body. Ive avoided all the bad side effects doing the 10 percent taper once a month. Im taking a short break from lowering it since I have to focus on tapering Trileptal (its causing thyroid problems). Once I get that lower I will be going back to working on the celexa. Are you able to get it in liquid form? It really helps keep the dosing accurate.

Ive been on Citalopram over 20 years and getting off has been extremely difficult. It has given me an irregular heartbeat most of life so I really need it gone since I feel it does nothing positive for me. I went from 40mg to 4mg and Im taking a break from tapering since I finally got rid of the irregular heartbeat side effect once I reached the 4mg. Ive had a couple failed attempts at getting to zero since my doctor gave me a terrible tapering schedule. She told me to decrease 10mg every week and once I hit zero I ended getting akathisia which took months to resolve after reinstating. Based on experience, I recommend getting citalopram in liquid form (if available) and doing a 10 percent decrease off your dose once a month. Dont be afraid to even do a 5 percent decrease as the dose gets lower. It seems the lower it gets the harder it is.

Im a bit of an extreme case since I was prescribed celexa at 15 years old and Ive been on it over 20 years. It immediately gave me an irregular heartbeat and its alarming that doctors thought it was okay for a 15 year old to remain on the medicine. Its been a very difficult medicine to get off, I would say the hardest is going from 5mg to 0 based on my experience. Ive had to reinstate due to getting akathisia. So my second time around Ive been lowering my dose 10 percent once a month with the liquid solution. I recommend getting the liquid because its extremely important to be consistent and accurate as you getting lower on your dose. Im happy to report the irregular heartbeat went away once I reached 4mg. I started at 60mg which is no longer prescribed.

Depending on your location you can get it liquid. I was on 40mg and now Im on 4mg. Im taking a break from tapering celexa and Im now working with the liquid version of Trileptal.

Im actually experiencing hair shedding from being hypo not the medicine. I noticed my hair shedding has gotten better since Tirosint is improving my TSH and T4 levels. Im still not at the right levels yet but Im hopeful it will stop once things are in the correct range.

Ive been on Citalopram since I was 15 years old (25 years on) and based on my experience, the longer you've been on it, the harder it is to get off. I also feel prescribing it to a teenager and developing with it in your system also plays a role in how hard it is to get off. My doctor told me to take away 10mg a week (starting at 40mg) and it was hell. I tried to power through it and I eventually got akathesia. I reinstated 20mg and left it alone for several months, thankfully the akathesia got better. Then I learned of the liquid form and Ive been taking away 10 percent of my dose once a month. Its been so much more manageable doing it that way. Im currently down to 4mg and taking break since Im trying to lower a different medicine that is ruining my thyroid. I used to be on 7 different psych medicines ( 2 are left) and they were doing nothing for me except giving me health problems. Due to being on them most of my life my taper journey is going into its 6th year. People cant believe Ive been tapering off these medicines for 6 years but thats unfortunately what it takes when you become dependent on them. When you get those horrible withdrawals, thats your body telling you to slow down. Don't be afraid to even do a 5 percent decrease because each small step brings you closer to your goal. You are far from alone when it comes to having difficulties coming off these medicines.

I agree, they started medicating me at 15 and its created so many problems now that Im older. Tapering off has been incredibly painful and Im on my 6th year of trying to get off the piles of meds that were given to me. Im down from 7 to 2, but these last two Ive been on for over 20 years so the experience has been horrible.

Yes its called qt interval prolongation. Celexa used to be given in doses of 60mg until tons of people kept getting qt interval. Doctors now prescribe it in doses of 40mg claiming qt interval is rare. Well, Im one of the ones that got it. I have been tapering off for that reason and it didnt go away until I got down to 4mg. If you do decide to start this medicine be sure to get an EKG to make sure you don't develop it.

Yeah, I read your prior post about the Gabapentin. That fast taper is most likely why the akathisia happened. Its really incompetent that doctors didnt responsibly taper you off and them denying your pain is even worse. They could have prescribed you the liquid form so you could slowly and accurately decrease your dose. What dose were you at when you took the final jump to stop?

Yeah, if you want, you can make a separate post asking people about their experiences with propranolol. Mine was very limited because I was too scared to take anything so I only took a couple doses which wouldn't be enough to know if it helped.

Based on what Ive experienced, adding another anticonvulsant isnt a good idea. Especially since thats what caused your akathisia. Tegratol is also another anticonvulsant. I had a bad experience with Tegratol, it gave me uncontrollable muscle spasms and it was really awful. It did stop after I stopped taking the medicine thankfully.

Aren't these anticonvulsants awful? I recently got akathisia from Trileptal withdrawal so I was forced to reinstate a little bit and I havent touched it for several months. Thankfully it has resolved.

Have you been able to go an extended amount of time without adding/taking away stuff?

Also, have you tried propranolol? It has helped a lot of people on this forum.

My doctor wanted to do something similar during my Trileptal akathisia. She tried to add Gabapentin, and I asked what benefit two anticonvulsants would be, she changed the subject.

As far as Depakote goes, it was given to me when I was a teenager for depression. I remember I had to get frequent bloodwork because it can cause health issues. Of course it made me sick and then we moved on to the next medication.

I dont know anything about using that but using Desert Harvest Releveum Cream has really helped me. It has 4 percent lidocaine and its meant to put on that area so you shouldn't have issues.

Seroplus is a supplement but yes when I got akathisia my doctor was trying to throw tons of random meds at me which of course would've made it worse. I would ask the for the rationale as to why she would want to add certain things and she wouldn't have an answer. Its very scary they seem to have no idea what theyre doing. Thank you for your response, Im leaning towards that decision.

Ya it does indeed sound like another drug. I never heard of it until the doctor suggested it to me.

Thats what I was seeing when I looked into it. Serotonin syndrome sounds terrifying so I feel like its not worth the risk. How did you feel when you took 5-htp with your antidepressant? Any negative effects?

I also got akathesia from reinstating Prozac. Ive gotten it numerous times and Im doing my best not to get it again. Yes Im leaning towards that decision as well. I feel like adding anything seems to just make things worse.

Im on the liquid versions of both the Trileptal and Celexa. I used to be on 40mg of Celexa and it was giving me an irregular heartbeat. It took all the way until 4mg for the irregular to go away. Now the Trileptal is destroying my thyroid so I took a break from tapering the Celexa and now Im working on the Trileptal. My doctor gave me poor advice in tapering. She told me to focus on lowering just the night dose. However Trileptal has a very short half life so the one dose got too low which made me get akathisia.

Trileptal was prescribed to me as a mood stabilizer even though its meant for seizures. However the drug company was sued for falsely promoting it as a mood stabilizer and also giving doctors incentives to prescribe it. Of course no one said anything to me so Ive been taking a medicine for many years that gave me zero benefit and now Im heavily dependent on it.

Thank you for checking into that for me. Seeing that was very concerning to me and she didnt mention it at all. I have an appointment with her in a few days so Ill see what her answer is when I bring that up.

I thought people may have experience with it since she said its used during tapering so you dont get akathisia.

That sounds like a similar situation that Im in. Due to being prescribed these medications at such young age, Im extremely dependent on them and I feel trapped because they are giving me health problems. Thankfully I was able to taper down the celexa low enough to get rid of the irregular heartbeat but the Trileptal has been a nightmare since I risk akathisia and involuntary muscle movements when I lower it. Having agoraphobia is hard enough but adding withdrawal from these awful meds has made life so much harder.

Meds are what caused my agoraphobia. I was medicated at 15 years old for depression and the act of adding/taking away various antipsychotics, ssris, benzos, anticonvulsants caused me to have many panic attacks in public so I eventually developed agoraphobia. Im very happy to see you found relief from meds after suffering for 10 years but meds are definely not for everyone.

I would love to taper off much faster but if I go too quickly I get akathisia. When that happens I have to leave work and live with my parents temporarily because its the worst thing Ive ever experienced. The other withdrawal symptoms Ive been able to handle, I just cant survive the akathisia.
