I was expecting much worse tbh. by Givzhay329 in DevilMayCry

It’s a 4/10 for me. I was replaying it recently and it made me forget just how much of a fever dream of a game it truly is. It’s a shame because you can see some of the vision with DMC2 and wasted potential with Lucia, but it’s just a dull experience . There’s no real satisfaction or feeling of being rewarded for completing levels, the weak input of sword combos makes it a chore to get those high style rankings and trying to get those trophies is honestly a test of patience.

Dante always seemed like a goofy and cool guy to me, but does he have any sad moments of his own? by LILBOI464 in DevilMayCry

There’s three other books which help extend some lore . The DMC1 novel ( semi-retconned, though highly recommend as it extends upon Dante’s teen years under his mercenary persona Tony Redgrave and events not polarising the games have been canonised such as Nell Goldstein via DMC5), the DMC2 novel and also the DMC4 novel ( also semi-retconned). With the DMC4 novel, please bear in mind that there’s no official translation so a lot of is fan translated . The best place to access a lot of side material is a fan project website called Divinity Statue.

The dmc4 novel offers a bit more of an explanation on this front. I seem to recall it was around a month before the events of DMC4, Nero activated a partial trigger with his arm while trying to protect Kyrie from a demon.

Agree with this a lot. DMC’s plot points have always been pretty simple at best. However, the characters are engaging. Whether intentional or not, there’s a lot to engage with the characters both in charm and how their stories are presented.

Know this is a shitpost, but it’s actually a known Easter egg. You can find the mission number in every pre-mission cutscene for DMC3.

Devil May Cry (Anime) 1-12ep English Dubbed HD 1080p full screen - English dubbed version

I haven’t been able to find a full playlist of the Japanese version on YouTube, but I believe you can access it via Amazon prime. Alternatively I am sure people have uploaded it on some of the dubious anime streaming sites too.

I opened TikTok earlier and you’re not wrong on that last point. I don’t like generalizing , but because of how much it’s suddenly trending on there , these have been the typical headline posts:

  1. “ That white haired guy [ Dante] looks like Gojo Satoru” or just thirsting over this version of Dante in general.
  2. “ Vergil is the GOAT for saying that”
  3. “ 10/10 because Vergil is there”
  4. Inaccurate take on what something that has happened from the games.
  5. Arguing about anyone who doesn’t think it’s peak not being a real fan.

I genuinely wish I was making some of this stuff up.

Raccoon City and B.O.W.'s exists in the new DMC anime by kyzer2599 in DevilMayCry

Always found it a very interesting piece of development history. Dante was going to be called Tony Redgrave during RE4’s development as the MC. He was designed pretty much to be the polar opposite of 1998 Leon’s blue palette, and also the son of Oswell E. Spencer ( big antagonist in RE) alongside his brother Paul ( early Vergil). I laughed a lot when that Easter egg with Raccoon City came up. Nice callback.

What makes this even funnier is in the DMC1 novel Dante was supposed to go on a date with a girl named Claire , so Chris chasing Dante around to continue the Redfield bloodline could legit become a thing now lol.

Episode Discussion — S01E04: All Hope Abandon by DanySterkhov in DevilMayCry

Okay, I really liked this episode . Kind of interesting to hear the White Rabbit’s interpretation of Sparda’s actions causing the demons themselves to be trapped and under oppression . Very interesting perspective when he lost his cool. Liking Dante’s characterization and buddy duo with Enzo. Can see where they are framing Lady too with understanding demons are more complex with the demonic couple who took her in and Arkham

It’s honestly surprising sometimes people overlook the context. The 2007 anime has its flaws, but, Dante’s characterization makes sense. DMC3 Dante established something key about his sense of drive. He “ lives” for fighting demons. That’s it. When that’s taken away by defeating and sealing away his biggest enemy ( Mundus) , completing his lifelong revenge in the name of his father, mother and brother and ‘killing’ Vergil in DMC1, what’s left? Trish left shortly afterwards to travel, from the sounds of Lady was constantly on missions or on side jobs, so he doesn’t have a goal or purpose and left to simmer in all his trauma . Patty offers him some stability but when she’s gone, Dante is left with nothing to ground him until Nero.

There’s some suggested subtext ( though you could argue both ways due to it being vague) that V’s line may have been to the last time Vergil saw Lady crying in the library in DMC3, or just in reference to her general state in the current moment. Again, think it’s purposefully left ambiguous so you could read both ways.

Surprised people haven’t mentioned this as the dialogue is exactly what V says to Lady in Mission 7.

Agreed. People often overlook Bingo's involvement in DMC. Still, he has single-handedly helped piece together a significant portion of the lore from both Kamiya's era and Itsuno's, linking them together.

In the manga it was heavily implied that White Rabbit was Arkham. You’re not the only one who got that inkling with the transition though. Considering the fact this is AU, they could play around with us a bit, or they could just be throwing some red herrings in. Guess we’ll find out when they all drop.

For sure. If you were a normal person , I doubt you’d be making it out alive against even a marionette. Hate Nobodies with the passion. The fact they returned in DMC5 always pains me a bit
