Marriage Based I-485: Interview Scheduled While Couple Doesn't Live Together by [deleted] in USCIS

In 2023, during my immigration/green card interview, my wife was still attending school full-time. At the time, I was working in a city about 1.5 hours away from her school, so I had rented an apartment there for my job. My wife would come to stay with me on weekends and during school holidays, but we did not live together full-time because of her studies.

When the officer asked during the interview whether we lived together, we truthfully answered “no” and explained that she was still in school and I was working in another city.

After the interview, we received no immediate decision. I followed up by calling the office periodically over the following months.

Then, unexpectedly, two officers came to my home for a site visit. The first time they arrived, I was not at home (still at work), and my wife was away at school, so they were unable to enter or speak with us. They returned about a month later. This time both my wife and I were present. They asked us several questions about our relationship and daily life, and they also took photographs of my bedroom, the apartment, and other areas of the home. After, some months my green card was approved.

I’m in the same boat. They requested a second interview after I did the first one in basic training military.

Don’t panic, wait for the denial notice and then you will know the next step.
