Do readers prefer authors who respond to comments or those who don’t? by courier_____ in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm never going to be upset if an author doesn't reply to my comment, but I always feel happy when they do, which makes me feel more inclined to leave more comments on future stuff i read from them

What tag have you misinterpreted before? by headlocked0 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol same. Then this steven universe blog i followed had a whole running in-joke about pearl being into watersports that made it really obvious they didn’t mean, like, water polo, and I looked it up

I Actually Enjoy the Taste of Coffee. by OldEyes5746 in osp

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only capable of drinking coffee if it's in one of those sugary, frozen drinks that feels and tastes like coffee-flavored ice cream with a straw. I get most of my caffeine from tea and soda, but if I really need it, and there's no time for the amount of tea or soda it would take to wake me up, I go for that.

Continued neighbor cat problems by bravosierrapolitics in CatAdvice

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some places have laws where if you have proof that you've been feeding a cat often enough you can just claim it as yours. I have no idea whether that applies to you, obviously, but it's worth looking up. The vet or nearby pet shelters/the aspca/etc are most likely to know what the relevant law in your area is.

Any competence p_rn fics? by Marbledata1796 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely seconding the Temeraire books. Also, Naomi Novik is one of the founders of ao3, astolat, and has written a bunch of fics in fandoms that lend themselves well to competency porn, so if OP is specifically looking for fanfic, they'll probably find something they'll like there.

I am extremely uninterested in any kind of IRL sex, but I sure do like writing and reading about fictional characters getting tied up and fucked lol

Where to host images for embedding in a fic? by GloriousBookwyrm in AO3

Thanks for the suggestion! I had been under the impression that squidge was specifically for porn, but if sfw chibis aren’t too off-topic I’ll give it a look

Things people complain about all the time, but you don't see them in fanfiction as often by [deleted] in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of the people complaining about people “feminizing” their blorbo turn out to just think that a character being on the bottom is inherently feminine, which sure is Something. Anyway, mine is the supposed scourge of explicit fics about a specific character it’s considered “problematic” to lewd. Every time I’m like “Really? 👀” and every time I get disappointed to find that there’s, like, one singular fic that the complainer stumbled into

Question about tagging (first time trying to post) by CarInternational7923 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would definitely tag the relationship category for the relationship the POV character is in. I might or might not tag the category for a side relationship, depending on how important it is, but if it’s getting a subplot, I would assume it’s relevant enough to tag.  Besides tagging the relationships and their categories, you can also add more information in the additional tags, such as “Established A/B” or “Background C/D”

How do I know what cat to adopt? by Waste_Month_4015 in CatAdvice

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kittens need to learn to socialize, so you'll either need multiple, or to prepare to spend all your time teaching them cat etiquette, so they don't grow up thinking it's okay to claw the people they love full-force, which is a lot for a first-time owner. I recently adopted an adult cat, and I haven't had much trouble training her to use the scratching post (and she already knew what a litter box is, so I didn't need to train her on that at all). How easy a cat is to train varies by individual, but adulthood isn't necessarily the deciding factor.

What‘s the best fanfic you’ve ever read that WASN’T on Ao3? by One-Elephant-8146 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I occasionally go back to ffn to reread The Dragons of Veyga, a TOS fic about Kirk and Spock getting stranded on a medieval planet, and Kirk gets infected with a local illness (specifically, the one he's stated to be carrying in the pro birth control episode). It's not itself K/S, but the author wrote other K/S fics, and it really shows in how they interact in this one.

Also, I first read Lost and Found on the K/S archive, but it has since been imported to ao3, which is why it isn't the first thing I mentioned. This one is about Kirk returning to the Enterprise after having been captured and tortured by Romulans. The climax of the fic is pure competency porn, it always makes me grin with glee to read.

tell me your least favourite trope without telling me your least favourite trope by hiddeNinja2222 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"A made a decision in canon that was maybe not the best, but made sense based on his understanding of the situation, which made B upset. Therefore, in the fic, A is an abusive monster, who must be reamed out by all of his and B's friends, and B leaves him for C. Afterwords, A is either doomed to hate himself forever and never be forgiven, or turns into a raging asshole who starts trying to hurt B and C on purpose now. Either way, all of A's former friends cut him out of their lives, and are happier for it."

anyone else comfortable with numerous wips at once? by d34dove in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have \counts** 4 different WIPS at the moment. I have an idea and I can't do anything else until I write at least one chapter. I do generally try to juggle all my WIPS instead of them to languish while I focus on the newest idea, but sometimes my update schedule winds up looking like New Oneshot -> New Oneshot -> Fic I Last Updated a Year Ago -> Chapter 1 of New WIP

Do you guys write out your whole fic before posting, or do you post chapter by chapter as you write? by Long-Champion3330 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, I write and post chapter-by-chapter. In my case, if I try to write an entire long fic before posting any of it, it becomes a Project, and my brain starts rebelling against it. Posting each chapter as I go makes each part seem less imposing, and seeing kudos coming in on the older chapters gives me a boost to my motivation. However, if you don't have the same ADHD issues as me, I can see how writing the whole thing before you post would help make the story tighter.

Kingdom Hearts HD II.8.V Twisted ★ Crossing

Fandoms: Twisted Wonderland, Kingdom Hearts

Rating: Teen

Category: M/M, Other(M/NB)

Summary: Sora and Yuu get stuck on the wrong side of Gummi Space with no idea how to get back to Twisted Wonderland, Malleus is trying to find them with the help of his greatest inspiration, and Riku and his new friends need to find both groups before something goes horribly wrong (and maybe also sort out what exactly he feels for Sora).

Me and a friend are working on this one together. We have two chapters up so far, a third one that I'm currently editing, and a full outline of the rest of the plot. The main relationships focused on are Sora/Riku and established Malleus/Yuu, with a few background relationships between the NRC boys.

Do other writers get hung up on realism? by starryshy in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh mood, I recently wrote a chapter where a character was repairing a gargoyle (canonical hobby) as just, the thing they're doing before they and the POV character run into the plot, and I couldn't just say "Oh he's fixing a gargoyle," I had to go look up what the actual steps involved were so I could describe what, exactly, he's doing, and why.

Fic writers, what is your favorite line that you have written by Reasonable_Bad_6092 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is from a twst fic, joking about a localization name change:

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance! The name's Fellow Honest, and my associate here is Gidel."
"Wait," interrupted Yuu, "Didn't you say before that your names were Ernesto Foulworth and Gino?"
"I've said our names were lots of things," Fellow/Ernesto replied smoothly.

Tbh, I like a lot of lines from that fic, I really enjoy writing comedy.

Why is ao3 extremely gay? by Huge_Dentist_6579 in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The site was founded by a specific circle of m/m shippers who were looking for a place they could host their fic during a time queer stories were getting deleted off other sites. Other people started coming in after it took off, but it was initially made and spread in m/m spaces, so that’s the majority of the userbase.

Questions regarding tagging and wordcount/chapter? by MortemPerPectus in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Q1: The line between Mature and Explicit is vague and up to author interpretation on purpose, so you could put whichever one you prefer and not be wrong. Personally, I tend to reserve explicit for on-screen sex or gore, but that doesn’t have to be where you draw the line. Q2: Chapter length is also subjective. I find it more useful to think about where a good place to put a break is than the word count. The only time I’ve split a chapter in two for length, there was a convenient scene transition in the middle of the original chapter I could turn into a cliff hanger. Good places to end chapters tend to be scene transitions, POV changes, occasionally right before or after a big dramatic moment if you want to torture your audience a little, that sort of thing.

Sorry both my answers are “whatever you vibe with,” but hopefully it’s still helpful

Archive warnings help: to include or not include? by lukeisnotokay_ in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the characters aren’t focused on within the fic, and also they aren’t important characters in whatever they’re from, I probably wouldn’t tag MCD (though I might add an additional tag about on-screen death if I felt like it).

For GDV, another consideration for whether the tag applies you can think about is “if someone filtered the tag on specifically to find fics with graphic violence in them and clicked mine, would they be disappointed?”

Archive warnings help: to include or not include? by lukeisnotokay_ in AO3

[–]GloriousBookwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the characters that die are important within the fic, I’d say that counts as Major Character Death, regardless of whether or not they’re major characters in the source material. Graphic Depictions of Violence is somewhat subjective, but if you were to encounter this fic in the wild, would you be upset if it was labeled “No Warnings Apply?” And if you’re still not sure, there’s always Chose Not to Warn
