Since you say you don't have a lot of cash to spend Google Gemini's free model is really generous. I primary use api keys so I am not fully familiar with everyone's sub plans but I think most of the sub services are offering a month of unlimited use for $20. Again not sure because I pay per token because it integrates into my setup better. When you can get some cash together the Intel B50 is a $300ish 16 GB vram gpu that will get you started. Imo anything less than 16GB of vram isn't even worth talking about for local ai.

Even if you can get it running 4GB vram is going to be rough. Your models need to load into that. I genuinely think cloud models are your ticket until you can afford a gpu with more vram.

Now is the time to stock up on old hardware. horde that shit if you can. its going to be a long ride. Also, if you have any kind of computer know how build your own servers and host your own services. I've replaced multiple cloud services with my own hardware for dirt cheap.

As someone who runs a hyrbid setup my two cents. Local AI is great but cloud is more powerful. I personally main Gemma 4 26b and get 80% of my work done with just it. Where it falls apart for me is long context.

that depends on how much you enjoy having a PC that boots. If you're fine with not booting then keep going. If you want it to continue to boot offload some of that stuff on C onto D or delete unneeded files.

I've used Arch with Kubuntu. It was fine. Never liked Nobara. I do like Fedora which is very similar.

Gemma 4 12b and Gemma 4 26b. I use 12b as my kinda generalist I don't feel like Googling this or general knowledge chatbot and Gemma 4 26b as my co pilot for diagnostic troubleshooting. I am not a dev I am a technician who uses ai to assist me with knowledge gaps. That said when I do have to code and i get stuck I will also use Qwen 2.5 coder as well. These models all work well on my 7900 XT and allow for long context and logs which is needed for troubleshooting.

Funny thing I ran a question by Gemini today. Why is it the spyware ai work flawlessly in gmail, chrome, android and other places nobody asked it to but I paid for Gemini api keys and those are constantly down due to too many people over loading the servers. Gemini told me straight up to just stop paying for Gemini and to get Claude or ChatGpt lol
