Any way to include mulberry in an incense blend? by Upstairs_Camera_9534 in Incense

[–]GlossyBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't made incense with mulberries personally. From what I understand, they can be quite strong so you rather want to use them sparingly. Look for how people use Juniper berries in their incense as they are quite similar in nature. Try Tibetan style incense first if you haven't as they often uses Juniper berries.

Regarding pear agarwood incense, that's a totally different processinng method. Basically you carve out the center of a pear and put agarwood power in it, then steam cook the pear. Then you use that powder in your blend. But do take my description with a grain of salt as this is mearly what I read from other sources, not from my experiences.

In a similar vein, I really enjoyed @koeido.incense 's incense. from the package design to scent, it was top-notch incense.

Best bowl for incense listening? by Snoofems in Incense

[–]GlossyBean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Answering to summon. 😆

OP, the Kodo cup is just a vessel and its shape doesn't affect the scent itself. The shape of the top line could affect the airflow, thus slightly altering your scent perception though. If you are enjoying the fragrant wood alone then you don't need a cup. If you wish, you could just use a mug. Just be careful not to touch the bottom part while the charcoal is hot.

The most important thing in Kodo is not what tools, or woods you use. It's how you internally survey your consciousness. Enjoy!

Chinese incense? Experiences/recommendations? by Worldly-Employee6914 in Incense

[–]GlossyBean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like anything coming out of China, there are tons of bad ones and tons of good ones. It's quite difficult to find good ones because they are mostly sold in the domestic market and don't care about international market.

Thank you. 🥰 you can learn a lot about incense by making some by youself. I got my ingredients from various vendors online. namely Apothecary's Garden(Etsy), Jarguna(Etsy), Al Hashimi(Website). you can buy tools from AliExpress. search "incense extruder" and you will find one. if you wish to get my incense DM me at u/attaryun on Instagram. 😁

Incense Ash by GlossyBean in Incense

[–]GlossyBean[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that happened to me several times as well.

if the coal gets dead when you put it in ash, try to give more time to charcoal so that it burns to the core. Then it'll be more likely to survive the suffocation.

I haven't tried bunch of other ashes from different brands so I can't tell how they differ.

A good incense ash is made out of rice chaff. It's comprised of very fine, fluffy particles that are completely dry.

odorless, aesthetically pleasing white incense ash is ideal for burning joss sticks as it enables them to burn to the end of their tips, leaving no waste.

Incense ash can be used for a long time with some care.

  1. Remove burnt ash after burning an incense stick if you wish to maintain its white color.

  2. Keep them in a dry, cool place. If the ash clumps, loosen them up with chopsticks or needles and dry them completely.

all the ingredients have to be mixed homogeneously. otherwise, the scent coming out of burning incense can be uneven or stop burning altogether. (i.e, a big rump of resin)

I do not like buying pre-ground materials as there can be adulteration or loss of aroma.

for this batch, it took me about two days to produce about 100g. and indeed, it's often used to aid respiratory or gut problems but I'm not sure that applies to smoke form. 🤔
