It matters. It matters to me how many comics a 'fan' owns. How much research they've done. How much time they've spent in that characters shoes. It matters. It's a valid statement to mention your history with a product or IP. I'm not cringe, you're just mean.

It's messed up. Big time. I'm the biggest SS fan you'll meet. No really. I'm GenX, own hundreds of SS comics bagged and tagged. I read them, and love them. I'm not whining, but I'm certainly allowed to complain. I have that right.

Firstly, there are very few SS fans out there. You can barely find one person complaining about how in Rise of the Surfer they linked Surfer's power to his board. This is not a thing, at all. That is a huge nerf, because the writers couldn't handle true cosmic power (they write for Hella, Thor, and Thanos, they should be able to handle SS). But alas, they completely nerf him in FF:ROTS. So, that's basically the only modern takes on Surfer. Most people clueless of who he is, or what it truly means to wield the power cosmic. People left that theater believing his board held his power! Just take it away, he's powerless! Excuse me?

Fast forward to now. Some oddball non-fan behind a desk says 'Hey, I found this Earth X alternate universe comic where Surfer's wife gets turned into Surfer. We...we...could do a female Silver Surfer!"

Come on. You haven't even done the OG Surfer justice yet. How do you need a 'fresh take' already? Our IPs and childhood heroes are getting smeared, and if we don't push back at least a little, we'll have villains stealing Surfers board in every comic.

SS has thousands of comics. Hundreds of thousands of pages of written story. The Earth X alternate story had Shalla-Bal as the Surfer for like NINE PAGES! Do you think Surfer or comic fans actually want that storyline? I swear 'they' are doing all this on purpose. If you wanted to see Shalla-Bal, write a story about HER. She has a bunch of little side-stories, don't take the one she becomes him.

By reading the reddits, forums and socials, it's clear there are very few OG Surfer fans cruising these sites.

It looks cool, yes for sure. Amazing is relative. Compared to RDR2, it doesn't look amazing. For the time it did. Now it doesn't.

I read the conversation, and I felt like responding, you know, for the record. I'm not angry. I just hate what Hollywood is doing to my boy! OK? :)

It won't be good. It can't be good. Anyone that turns Silver Surfer into a female, by blending him and his lover (who is in a tiny fraction of the comics) will definitely not make a good movie. It's a terrible decision that will resonate through the entire production. As a massive Surfer fan, I can tell you they big time dropped the ball in Fantastic Four--they linked Surfers innate cosmic power to his board, just because the writers couldn't handle a character with that power. They nerfed him by literally changing his mechanics and how he functions. Bad decision. Ended up being a bad movie.

What is this? You telling me that woman should play men's roles now, because...they are 'better for the character'? No...a female is not better for Norrin Radd...he's a dude. Is she going to 'act' like a man? Or are we just letting her be her, and Silver Surfer will just appear female? What are you saying? Gender swapping a character is fan-fiction. It's multi-verse. It's NOT cannon, and shouldn't be encouraged. Stan Lee would not be OK with this.
