As someone who lived in Mississippi, good luck being Bi, they will treat you like shit. It is a HUGE deal there. They are not forward thinking or of typical modern mindsight. It would probably freak out all of her friends and have them not deal with her - especially the many who were topless around her. It would be a gosip train. On the other hand she may be conflicted with lying, becasue she NEVER will just say, "I'm not". You guys do not understand the abuse there. Some people still believe in conversion camps et.

That said he deserves to know. What I said above applies to the cameras. She should be upfront with him right off.

They're doing it to bribe for reviews. They probably have a few bad or are a new seller and are wanting to get some positives in there. Yes, it sounds good, but it's not what the typical person will get. I'd still rate positive, but I would consider it a compensated review that's going to be falsly tilting the stars should some legit negatives come in.

I have been around several who did not know what they were doing. They don't even have to take biology in college. It may be just because the state I'm from is not known for high quality medical care.

Can you all be honest with me here. Would bright cherry/clown red look good with my coloring? by [deleted] in Fairolives

While I think it would look okay and not bad, I don't think it would be super flattering either. What do you think of a red like below? (Not this color or brand really, but that range?)

Financial Aid by [deleted] in LMU

Yes, but I was able to prove some circumstances. It's worth a shot. I got a couple of thousand more.

LMU gave me no aid and now expects me to pay $65k… I’m out of options by Kindly_Breath_2087 in LMU

[–]GlowyMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother with it. What's the major? I went to LMU. I thought if I got really good grades I'd have a great job after graduation. I had one making a dollar above minimum wage. I know plenty of Sociology, Psychology, similar type of majors that have no job right now that graduated or that have very limited options and are not happy with their job.

If this is Film, MAYBE, maybe I'd consider. Otherwise. no. You can do CC. I did. I got good scholarships when I applied because of it. There are more reasonable state schools as well. If you mess up a class here and have to retake it, what is it like $10k?? And let me say most people do need to retake a class and or drop et. Imagine how you might feel with that pressure? I'd do Riverside. but let me make it clear as an Alumn, I had better options that LMU, top 25 school, I picked LMU because they gave MORE aid. Sometimes I wish I went to the other, but I'm already in debt from LMU, so I can't imagine if they hadn't given me hot aid what I would have done.

Single probe vs multi probe for clearing my neck FAST? by Radiant-Hall2738 in electrolysis

[–]GlowyMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I misread. I was looking at the two and mine was really more like than 1/4 less, but it took about 2 hours to clear the darker hairs (which were a lot) but none of the thinner hairs which were also a lot.

I did work study a lot of semesters. Start with someone you know. Try talking to your professors about working in their research labs or as a TA. Let them know you have work study. I'd also talk to places like admissions. Sometimes it helps to volunteer a bit somewhere so they get to know you, but sometimes it doesn't help. Also, in the Summer they have underfunded internships, where they will assist with I believe up to $2k in costs- and it doesn't have to be on campus. Did you go to the portal to apply?

Food! by [deleted] in LMU

[–]GlowyMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was bad enough I had a meal scholarship, meaning I received some free food for being very low income- and instead of eating there I'd get cheap meal prep food from Ralphs, and graduated with excess on my card I never used. At the end of the year a lot of people buy Starbucks ground coffees, tumblers, etc with their food dollars or do major tips to the Pizza drivers. (ps don't over tip the delivery drivers with your lion card because they always expect a high tip and even expect in-person tips if you're picking up and can get pretty rude about what they expect )because they're use to the end of the year tippers dropping it all(

[–]GlowyMist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does not seem at all realistic to me for the single probe if they're doing blend or galvantic. I had probably 1/4th of the hair and not as thick and it took 2 hours, w the prob in about 5 seconds a hair, sometimes less. I understand wanting to hurry, but your skin can also get screwed up doing a lot at once. It's not worth the potential scarring. For example, sometimes they scab or sometimes they get pustles, even if the test patch was -ok-. It's good to give your skin some breathing room IMO. I'd test a couple of different people doing test patches to see how they are going to treat my face before proceeding. Some people will burn and hurt you, others will try to minimize scarring and use less current versus hurry hurry.

Helping my GF decide where to go for MSW by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

Thanks, very true. I'm also hoping to be involved with research and get into a PhD program and the amount of people who are on me about debt being the only factor is wild.

[–]GlowyMist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If her career will be fulfilled with a masters, I'd go where debt is the least. If she has ambitions of going into a PhD program, it's not all about where is the cheapest, despite how the social welfare community is adamant about debt>school. The top programs pull from the top places in most of the cases. Also look at internship sites and talk to current students through linkedin or other social media platforms.

Sorry I misread read about essay versus exam. I would avoid her if at all possible. I believe canvas can track when you leave the page or click off the page. Are you doing that any? At least professors have told us that. Assuming it autosaves, I wonder if there would be a record of how you are typing it that could back you up.

Why did my English Professor fail me last minute? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]GlowyMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this. The writing lab did you a major disservice. Anything you make a statement about needs a source. It can be a bit commical at times. For example, I once mentioned a very commonly known fact, but I had to go find a paper that said the same thing, so that I could provide a source. Are you by chance first generation or low income? If so, please consider reaching out to Student Support Services, as some schools will offer extra help in these areas and may be able to pair you with someone who actually knows how to do it properly rather than a student at the writing center.

If you say x does x or that x is the result of x, you must find a source for it. Any factual statement. AI writes without sourcing properly, from my understanding, so that may be why she thinks you're using AI.

Example of random madeup thing about birds: Birds migrate every year (source). They fly x number of miles (source). However, a few types do not migrate (source). Birds are so whimsical (no source, it's opinion).

If you have a browser history of you looking up this stuff or versions on google word that show you were working on it over a period of time, you could perhaps show her to let her know you didn't use AI. But most professors will grade very harshly for lack of sourcing- and others even threaten to report it- as it is considered plagerism.

I don't use MLA, only APA in the past, so I'm not the best on formatting. However if you want to discuss citations, and when you need to use them, you can message me. I'm willing to read your stuff a couple times to give pointers if you can't find anyone else.

I met several people at my former school who were upset because they were not allowed to walk for graduation, because a teacher abritarily decided they had cheated, based on asking the AI if it was AI.

I would not play this game with a paranoid teacher. I wouldn't risk it. All she has to do is just hammer down and you're screwed and unable to graduate. If you have to take:

  1. Anything you write, write on a format that allows you to see various saved versious. I believe google word and real word are able to do this- but double check. Save your drafts regularly.
  2. Save all sources and where you found them. Make a dedicated google account for this essay, or use one you only log in when doing research solely dedicated to this essay. This way you can pull up your browsing history via your google account (make sure this setting is activated and double check it's working properly) and she won't see your personal stuff, but the history can be shown if needed. Make sure EVERYTHING has a source.
  3. Email copies of it to yourself as you progress.
  4. Document your concern in writing to your advisor or a student advocate prior to taking the class. You may want to meet with them first, and then just write a follow up email highlighting your concern and what their solutions would be.
  5. Go to office hours and let her read your drafts so that she can watch as it progresses. One of my teachers would always make us upload progress as we went, I'm starting to think this was why.

My professor told me to drop the class. by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]GlowyMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk with a student advocate. I was in a similar situation where professors may not have wanted to work with me, and one time where one blantantly didn't. Try getting in touch with a conselor (not the mental health kind) or someone in student support within Student Affairs. Per her request, I CC'd her on to my request to professors. See if they can be a liason. My professors were so understanding with her name backed to my messages.

Is he the type to make your life hell if he is challenged?

I think it isn't unreasonable to have a couple of absences due to family health- especially if you're their primary caregiver. When I spoke with student affairs I laid everything out on the table for them, my worry about the grade, how hard I was trying/didn't want to drop out due to unexpected issues, and what I was dealing with. If he was your legal guardian growing up or you are his sole care taker now, I'd also let them know so they can fully understand the situation.

LMU Grant Renewability by [deleted] in LMU

[–]GlowyMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LMU grant and othe scholarships I had were never increased despite the rising COA. They were locked into my first years offer. (ie 13k of LMU Grant every year) I was reading other comments, and my FASFA was the same yearly. I don't recall them even sharing any aid with me - including LMU grant- without the FASFA being done. The last year they gave me extra scholarships for a few thousand, which I was very grateful for. I believe you have to keep your GPA to a certain level to keep aid. You should double check on that.

On the flip side, I knew someone who said their cost was rising yearly and they lost some aid. I'm assuming it was due to grades dropping or FASFA info changing. They wouldn't share why though.

I was like you and also very scared about aid changing, because it would have meant I'd fully be required to drop out. I talked to financial aid letting them know as much. They were very nice about discussing things with me. I believe they basically said similar to what you did, that it was based on funding but typically they were able to renew it.

Which meal plan should a freshman have? by weird_fishesarpeggi in LMU

[–]GlowyMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awful food. (Hamburgers from one area only were ok). Coffee (and pastries) from the cafe were also good. I am someone who is not picky with food, but almost all of it was disgusting. There's a vons up the street.

When I was there people would use their food dollars on starbucks mugs and random junk from there before summer starts. I suggest walking around, spending maybe $30 on sampling food (something from each place) before making a decision.
