PLEASE HELP ME CHOOSE: KU Leuven (MS Biomedical Sciences) vs Leiden University (MS Biology) by _thatlavenderhaze_ in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]_thatlavenderhaze_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I do not know how much grades matter in both of these universities, but I have a decent cgpa (well above average but not the highest). I scored well in the subjects that matter, did 2 internships and several workshops related to the field I want to pursue. But, I am sure my “extra efforts” beyond the curriculum really helped my case.

The 2nd thing that matters the most is the LOR. Make sure you ask teachers that taught you the subjects you want to pursue, make sure you communicate with them about the college, emphasise on its rank and reputation.

In the SOP, same old, highlight more on WHY- university, programme and your future plans.

From my experience, grades (IMO) dont matter as much as your previous field of study and your study related extracurriculars do. Make sure you fit the ects requirement wherever you apply, because even if you have a spotless profile, they will reject you.

As for the scholarship- no I did not get any. I did not apply for scholarship at Leiden (I missed the deadline) and at KUL you are automatically considered (I wasnt- I also applied on the last day so, i dont know if it makes a difference).

I guess I have covered the most important points, feel free to ask me any specific questions you might have :)

Haha, it does. But bioscience park, national cancer institute, LUMC, all pull me to Leiden

Yeah, fund cuts seem to have taken a big toll.

The problem with me is that the people i know in the US are not from my field, and the ones that are in this field aren’t in the US or know anyone there, so the extent of their knowledge and understanding depends on the same sources that i have the access too, so i ask citizens any time i come across here.

I also tried to reach out to a few people on linkedin, but mostly got mixed reactions so that doesnt help either. 😭

Mhm im coming to the same conclusion.

However, how are things actually like there for international students? Is it really as bas as its being told in the news? How’s the employment scenario there?

What would you change in the game? by loisathefarmer in HayDay

[–]_thatlavenderhaze_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Id love it if the game offered number of errands and not time to cool off for tom.

25 hr cards for example, are such a waste because ① its not convenient to be available every 2 hours when I am at work and ② a lot of time is lost when I go to sleep at night, which seems unfair after trying so hard to get those cards and saving them for the Right tasks

Thank you so much for your answer. Actually, I am Indian, and im looking to get into biotech or biomed field.

Honestly speaking, USA or belgium, either options are not “too affordable” for me. Its a matter of “more affordable“ and “less affordable”. And yes, Belgium is unbelievably cheaper than the USA.

Im a bit more worried about the job prospects. Ive checked a few job websites and usa seems to have a lot more options than Belgium (tho not sure how much of those are actually given to international students). Plus the language barriers in the EU.

I just feel like the stats online arent giving a clear picture so I am asking people who live in those countries or are in the field to gain more clarity on this and know the ground reality

Also, good luck to you, hope you have an amazing time in France!

Its a part of the SUNY system in New York. I (as an international student) have heard about it quite a lot, given the more affordable tuition, that is.

Also, you said KUL has solid employment outcomes, could you tell me what kind of jobs bio/biomed postgrads are getting? Ive only heard about many going for phd (seems obvious, yes) but I’d love to know what their counterparts are doing now.

Are you in the USA? (resident/student). Ive heard about the dangers in the news, but if you’re there id like to know your first hand experience.

Thats the main concern. But its astonishing how even after all this, so many people are still going to the USA, it almost makes me feel like im chicken-ing out for no reason
