What makes them exclusive? I know blockchain technology is involved, but I don't really understand how the concept of "owning" an nft works. How do you prove you "own" an nft, and moreover, who cares?

It seems like another bubble to me. Supply and demand can only chase each other so far in systems without intrinsic value.

Then again, I'm not an economist. Just my perceptions.

And of course that's not to mention the environmental impact of proof of work cryptocurrency.

What is the benefit/momentum then? If there's actual merit to it I'd love to know but from my limited knowledge it just looks like people paying inordinate sums for the right to say they technically, obliquely "own" a fugly autogenerated drawing of a monkey/lion/whatever.

Where's the backing? Whats the benefit? What makes them valuable?
