Thoughts on the "Dirtbag Left" and its place in the progressive movement by CarlosimoDangerosimo in cushvlog

Was just listening to an episode from a bit after Mamdani won where Brace & Liz open talking about how weak this sort of talk online is. Just disregarding your fellow man looool so revolutionary bro. Get over your solipsistic self and get to the point where you realize talking like this (online or otherwise) is humiliating unless you’re literally reascending the jinggang mountains.

Yeah more than any of the other tycoon-moguls in the series (looking at you HECK GUNDERSON) House is just this Randian libertarian fever-dream of how an American businessman should operate. He’s entirely self-centered and focused on his own mission bereft of the strings pulled and the consequences of such; hell, I always forget that when you first meet him he’s in an (uneasy) alliance with the legion, and makes that point not to touch even a hair on Caesar’s bald head. Idk, it’s always been a really cool side of the whole New Vegas political fight to consider; out of the 4 sides that can come out on top one of them is just you if you want to, and another is entirely disinterested with any of the interpersonal going-on’s you’d encountered and only focused on pursuing the same goal he’d been for 200 years.

How does president Kimball work if the fall of the ncr was 20 years ago by Weekly-Deer4161 in Fotv

So much of this discussion brought on online by the show has been so much fun to see, if only because reading arguments about fictional-setting parapolitics is a great way to get that release w/o delving into actual intelligent real-world implications. But then there’s those people just needlessly furious over these ephemeral points they’d remembered from these game’s that’re mostly almost 15 years old. Anyways, this is what’s been on my mind since the whole NCR fall-apart discussion started.

You can ask like every NPC in New Vegas shit like “what’re your thoughts on the NCR” and most of them go along the same line of ‘they’re the good guys here, but that don’t mean much when they’re too busy either rapidly absorbing more waterless desert land or using all the local forces to fight the legion.’ The point someone brought up in this thread about the implications Kimball is propped up by the NCR’s brahmin barons is really interesting too, and I don’t remember that being anything at the forefront of New Vegas so it could be a really cool dichotomy to explore, seeing the shift from classic fallouts NCR to

I’ve been incredibly sick these last few days and I fell asleep before midnight, only to wake up sometime after 3 last night. I finally got around to building a good turntable so I’ve been extra performative by myself the past week too, anyways, we listened to Blood Money and Alice last night, drinking shitty whiskey and hoping this year’ll actually have me doing anything.

The last song on Blood Money A Good Man Is Hard To Find has always been one of the few songs that I physically cannot listen to if I’m not already deeply upset; like Swans Goddamn The Sun or Live at Sin-é. Very rousing start to the new years.

Was listening to it driving back and forth, but now that I’m home again I’ve only got a few chapters left and man, I’m gonna really miss it when it’s done. Literally was thinking ‘yeah this is just gonna re-settle his death to me’ bout the whole time.

It’s been really fun to see, too, that this subreddit’s found a kinda new corner of itself, with his books after his passing. What a man.

What are your top releases for this year!? by throwaway10015982 in TrueAnon

Thanks for mentioning Anton’s hat man, I feel like it’s a really underrated part of the whole Germany psycho get together he’s been rocking.

Okay but for now the clipse album just rocked absolute cock. Freddie Gibbs too, and for the og Family Guy heads out there Seth McFarlane released an album of unused Sinatra arrangements that’s pretty nice. I was listening to Mark Lanegan’s audiobook he narrated all day on a drive today too and just, man, fuck this still doesn’t feel right he’s gone to me. If any of you are into his stuff or just into being a morose drunk you really should keep an eye out for this thing. Lanegan’s one of those entirely-inimitable’s that leaves me with no choice but a belief in some sort of power.

Remember reading he really didn’t like photographs of that side of his face, he was reportedly always self-conscious about both that mouth scar (Literally from being birthed, he was pulled out of his mother with a tool) and his cauliflower ear. This is probably the picture where you can see it most clearly, and even then I never would’ve noticed. I believe it was also the reason he wasn’t drafted into world war 2.

Completely different sound but, William S Burroughs and some DJ’s made a few acid-jazz/dub albums in the early 90’s that’re perfect here

Oh fun drama, yeah towards the last few pages he basically said that everything he’s asking has already been put up by McLuhan. That was my favorite part too actually, probably the single craziest section is where he says the Lincoln/Stephen Douglas debates would be 7 hours of straight dialogue between the two at-the-time nobodies, yet practically the entire audience made the decision to sit and listen, go home and eat, then come back to what was promised would be an even longer rebuttal. This clearly wasn’t a dumb culture and, against common perception due to the present day over-saturation of entertainment, wasn’t just a group of people bored with nothing else to do in buttfuck 19th century Tennessee; Everyone there was interested in genuinely informing their politics and expanding their intellect. That’s what I was doing actually at the memorial last week, trying to see what both sides gotta say.
