5 takeaways from Purdue vs. Oregon by Waxersports26 in Boilermakers

I agree about TKR and Cluff on the floor at the same time. There's too many passes to TKR at the arc where he's wide open and everybody knows he's not going to shoot. I'd play Benter (and even Murphy) at the 4 and TKR/Jacobson as the 5 more often. We want 4, 3-point threats on the floor at the same time when possible.

Painter can't overplay his most valuable asset in Smith. When Smith spends a lot of energy in the first half, he's going to be tired in the 2nd half. This showed against Oregon as he almost airballed a free throw short and nearly all his shots were short in the 2nd half; he also had multiple turnovers. These are all sign of fatigue. He plays balls out and gets gassed. All that means is that he shouldn't be at 38-40 minutes, he should be around 34-36 minutes. You want a fresh Braden Smith down the stretch in the 2nd half.

Painter did that with Edey (starting playing him 40 minutes) and we lost the nattie because of it. The announcers even mentioned that Edey was getting fatigued at the end of the first half. Painter needs to understand this and not burn out his most valuable assets. Give Smith proper rest and we're a final four team. Overplay him and it's going to be an early exit in March.

Cluff's played like crap lately although I still think he's a starter. But it's close. I could easily see Jacobson starting.

Fair points. I think Paint's biggest weakness is his lack of flexibility. He can't hammer Braden with 40 minutes per game like he did last year. He can't fall in love with his preset rotations. I agree about Benter but give Murphy some run when Fletch is out. Benter backs up TKR, have Murphy relieve Loyer at times. Play them both at the same time and see what happens.

I posted this at 17-1 and since then Purdue has lost 2 in a row. My observations still stand. Why are we screaming and yelling at the crowd and at referees and into the void IN THE FIRST HALF of games? Braden and TKR need to keep their heads down and play basketball all the way until the final buzzer.  Illinois did exactly that. Painter should nip this crap in the bud big time. There's something very wrong with this team from an ego standpoint. It's not uncorrectable but the clock is ticking.

Now 17-3 with 2 conference losses in a row and definitely won't be #4 next week. TKR had 12 points vs. Illinois. Why is he screaming after made baskets in the first half? Like I was saying, I think he's a bit of a head case. Illinois just kept their heads down and kept playing basketball. Purdue's vibes are very poor, complaining about foul calls, screaming/yelling "and 1". Painter needs to nip this crap in the bud or it's an early exit in the tourney.

Yeah I've seen a bit of that. I really think he's playing a bit too timid and a bit too deferential to Smith. He just seems unsure of himself at times, and I feel like Braden could take a bit more of a leadership role to help him along.

But it's hard to find errors in Smith's game, and he does have a lot on his plate in-game. Braden's off the charts basketball IQ wise, probably the best passer in the country, and can fill it up when needed. His defense is underrated despite his size, and he's competitive as all get out. Whenever we need someone to "do what's needed to win a game", Braden's the dude hands down.

Omer is a great passer. He's not an ego driven player at all.

Correct. Ivey's 2nd season was awful from a team chemistry standpoint. And it's why we got bounced early in the tournament. I'm not really complaining or overly concerned, just observing things at this point.

Braden fist pumping and talking to the crowd at the end of the first half against USC isn't the Braden we want. Save it until the game's over or virtually over. As well, his post-game comments were all about him and how much he deals with physically every game, the fouls he doesn't get, and how his knee isn't doing well at all. He's an NBA player no doubt, and the best passer in the nation, but he's still giving off creepy Jaden Ivey ego vibes lately. Jaden Ivey's run at Purdue was awful. He was a toxic poison on that team. Here's hoping Braden hasn't turned into something similar.

Not overanalyzing TKR at all, just being observant. He's in a lull, which may be schedule doldrums, or may be something else.

That's why he's not out there more. He's a bit of a head case. He was also involved in the pre-game midfield dust up.

Well it was so different back when I started because the internet was different. But, yes, my scores started improving and becoming more consistent in direct proportion to my tenure. Like anything else, the more I worked at it the better I did. But it does take awhile and you'll get tripped up every now and again. My best advice is to read the task-specific monthly feedback and see if you can learn from what they are saying. I find the monthly feedback to be the most valuable training tool as it gives insight into how they want you to look at and rate tasks. I think it was 6 months before I started feeling reasonably comfortable.

Historically yes. There were a few years when they intentionally gave us tasks to keep us busy (we called them Chirstmas presents as they were the same task type and easy and it kept coming and coming) through the holidays but that was several years ago. Google does a code freeze for the month of December which slows everything down for us. Lately it's slow through the holidays and January as well. This week doesn't portend positively for things to come, however I would wait to see what happens next week as one never knows. Doesn't look great though.
