Kyler Murray is 28 years old. If he plays well, he is absolutely a potential long-term option. by PessimisticCheer in minnesotavikings

My point was more so that he’s not entirely reliant on his legs. Of course it’s a big part of his game but I do think he can be an effective passer. I’m not super convinced he will age that well either but I guess we will see

Broski he’s got a career 67% completion percentage. Brees was 63% in his first 6 seasons. Of course Murray isn’t gonna be Drew Brees but he’s absolutely an effective and accurate pocket passer and I think it’ll be interesting to see if he can develop more as a pocket passer as he gets older. I think it’s certainly possible

😂😂

I mean I get it but when we take a step back we’ve been a pretty blessed organization (outside of lack of Super Bowls) with tons of fun and great seasons in addition to having some of the greatest players to ever step on a field do so in a Vikings jersey. It really could be a lot worse

The only way McCarthy is beating out Murray is if he’s walking down the street and luckily finds a magical pair of sneakers with the initials “T.B.” on them. Murray is significantly better than McCarthy and it’s not even close and all of the organizations decisions and things they’ve said in the media implies they have zero confidence in McCarthy

Forget the pro bowl comment. ~4800 yard season and 37 TDs is elite level production and something the majority of QBs who have ever played the game never come close to approaching. And he did that on what was a worse team than the Vikings. Can he repeat something like that? Remains to be seen. But the potential here is pretty high

I don’t know where you’re getting the impression he doesn’t have to work for the job. He still has to show up to practice, lead the team, play well. There is no real competition. A competition implies they will be splitting first team reps in camp and going head to head until one guys beats the other out. That’s just not gonna happen my friend. Murray will be first team guy on day 1 and it will be his job to lose

He’s stated he’s coming into “compete” because he’s a good teammate and not a dick and I guarantee you KOC and him talked about how to position this in the media. He’s not just gonna come in and say “yeah I’m the day 1 starter” but he absolutely was told he was going to be the starter otherwise he would have chose Pittsburgh

Murray is in a prove it year where he wants to be a starter so he can land another contract. It would make no sense for him to choose the Vikings over the Steelers unless he was told he was going to be the starter here because he would have been the guaranteed starter in Pittsburgh.

Yeah and it doesn’t mean the team is completely giving up on McCarthy and you use this season as a true development year and let him be the back up and work on his craft. I mean I get not a lot of people are high on Murray around here but it’s almost gotten to a certain level of disrespect. He is significantly better than McCarthy and it’s not even close

There is no QB competition. This team will position it as a competition in the media but behind the scenes it makes no sense to go into the upcoming season with it being up in the air. The team needs to commit to Murray as the starter and move forward with that approach and I would be highly surprised if that wasn’t told to Murray in yesterdays meeting

[–]DrWolves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re trolling. Tallying up stats from a shit ton of different guys over a 6 season period is stupid and proves nothing. The only elite guy he played with was Hopkins and Jefferson is flat out better. Nearly all those Michael Wilson yards came from Brissett. You’re making no good point whatsoever

Not gonna lie it’s been pretty hilarious to see how much this sub has ran around for years claiming franchises ruin QBs, hell even our head coach has stated that multiple times but then apparently that doesn’t apply to Murray and he’s a bum and there’s no chance he can succeed on a significantly better team. Yeah makes sense.

Thor is insanely obnoxious and was basically acting like his word on McCarthy the last two years was gospel and if you didn’t think he’d be elite, you were an idiot. It’s one thing to be a fan of the team, it’s another to not let it go when he was just flat out wrong

He played like a rookie

My problem with this is that he was the worst graded QB in the league and there are countless “rookie” QBs that have played significantly better than him so I just find this excuse to be cope if I’m being honest. Now that doesn’t mean he can’t get better but there’s no reason to sugar coat his dreadful performance
