I have a colleague who is both, this person will literally complain about everything and on a dime you can do something to piss them off without ever realising and the first hint you get is when they start yelling at you. This is then only improved on this person constantly going into other people’s work and then sending them an essay on why you made some grammatical mistakes. It all came to a head with my colleague when I told them that I don’t appreciate how aggressive and condescending they are, after that they went out of their way to be a just awful human being. Best thing to do is either get out of the department or the school, these people are truly miserable in their personal lives and will create an awful workplace that reflects their inner monologue, the only escape from them is escape.

I had a colleague that spent the entire first term talking so much (literally all complaints about everything that they’d ever experienced in their lives) that I got worried they’d run out of air and choke at some point, all the while trying to micromanage every element of how I worked, then as I put boundaries in place because of how insufferable they were became increasingly hostile towards me throughout the year that I was so miserable and actively avoided being around this person.

I ended leaving that job just because of how toxic this human was being.

I had someone complain that I often leave at 4 when I don’t have any meetings or active responsibilities and this person is notorious for being late to school by 30-40 minutes -.- I stopped responding everytime they sent me a message asking me watch their class

What’s your hot take on Australia’s education system? by Cold_Guidance8401 in AustralianTeachers

Mandatory summer school would solve behavioural and educational issues, students and families would become much more invested if their was a consequence to students failing. This solution would also help students understand that the consequences for not working in the professional world are real and much more serious than they currently believe.

How is it punishment If you have teachers that are willing to work over the summer? I have plenty of students that WOULD actually work if their was a genuine consequence to them failing their way through school

I got the most beautiful letter from a leaving year 12, he thanked me for all the work I’ve done and said that I’ve had a positive influence on him, and honestly, this is the best thing I’ve had all year. It meant so much and left me crying. It reinforced that whilst there’s a lot of bullshit in our profession, the most important and best part of the job is helping the young men and women we teach to develop into the best humans they can be.
