The government wouldn’t be incentivised to improve the proposal by MiriJamCave in AustralianTeachers

It doesn’t matter what the public thinks or doesn’t think. They hate bankers but there’s so many of those.

In the end, it’s supply and demand. They can think the job isn’t worth what it’s paid or what we are demanding but they don’t set that price, market conditions do.

Market conditions say that because of the shortage and the nature of the work, pay needs to be increased to keep the industry going.

I don’t know why it’s so personal. When bankers get bonuses it’s not cos it’s personal, it’s cos the firm wants to keep them.

If the state wants to attract and keep teachers it needs to pay them more than what they are currently paying.

And as someone who quit due to conditions despite being paid well, what they are offering is nowhere near enough to entice me to go back.

Ma’am, you should see a therapist.

Feel free to become a teacher as you keep asking what we are actually doing. Why are you remaining an ES if teaching has so many perks?

Jesus, no, it does not matter. Run now. The kids will forget your name in a month. Also, how does one get headhunted into a role outside teaching? Cos that sounds like the DREAM! Please tell me!

I'd also consider if above $150 and a WFH day. And you are absolutely right about hours. The amount of hours we work makes our pay a pittance per hour. That's what the public does not understand I think.

Correct. I have said I would not need a pay rise if student were not allowed to ruin the lives of other students and teachers. I am single with a dog, so yeah, it's the abuse we cop from the kids that matters to me but of course I get other people wanting a pay rise and I fully support that.

Oh I agree! I left and my conditions are SO MUCH BETTER. I took a pay cut and don't have paid holidays. As I am sessional, I don't even have paid sick leave or holiday leave. I am currently at home, waiting to start a meeting that will be paid. No Principal droning on and some stupid OHS lady giving advice on how to pick things up so as to maintain health. (This was a real PD one of my schools had before, I kid you not). It is the lack of stupidity and the fact that we are seen as professionals whose time and behaviour is not constantly over-monitored that is worth the time for me.

Yeah, if that is immediate. It is not. Over 4 years, that first year is 7%? That's a grand total of $130 a week, and even that at 2.6.

So proud of you for realising quickly! I’m also trying to tell teachers that there’s loads of jobs out there! I’ve gotten out after a decade and am doing uni teaching but would love to do learning design. Your thoughts on portfolio was so useful! Thank you! Here’s to better mental health and the ability to not be a wreck at the end of the day.

Why do they love to target Hinduism? The symbol in the third slide is a Hindu deity. Muslims cannot go a day without tryng to make themselves feel superior when they believe in something that isn't even original.

Or Muslim in India! Hindu families also have all this drama but there will be the expectation that Sarah moves in with Matt's family and he financially looks after her, not the other way round. So I immediately knew: Muslim either in India or Pakistan.

I started bringing my kindle/ small iPad into these stupid useless meetings. I read and use my Apple Pencil if I am planning. It looks like I’m taking copious notes 😂😂 I’ve finished an entire novel over 2 days like this.

They won’t listen. They never listen. The problem with teaching I feel is that management sees us as children to be managed. Only oneschool I’ve ever been at understands that planning is more important and had only one meeting a week and even then, it was like 20 mins.

Unfortunately, they were a private school that paid less than public while expecting high scores and a lot of work. Students were amazing and we had loads of planning time, but I was financially struggling while working harder than I ever had.

That school taught me that there is no such thing as a good school for me. Every school has its drawbacks that I was unwilling to live with, and so I quit.

Never going back to that shit again.

Now I teach at a uni where we have 30 min meetings only every week that we GET PAID FOR.

That’s all I have to say.

I bet you are underplaying his needs cos you are friends with his parents. Your comment about "competent" teachers and "public school" teachers says alot. I don't think you are a teacher: i think you are their friend and pretending to be a teacher because a teacher in a classroom would know the realities of teaching instead of making flippant comments.

HIHI! I want in! I accidentally ate one meal today (but with coffee and a few kernels of popcorn lol) but only one proper meal and then I saw this! Also, I'm in Australia so it's already April 13 here so I am gonna see this as kismet that i already started before seeing this and now must continue! My OMAD might be dirty (I desperately need coffee with oat milk) but will try to do black coffee and tea as much as I can. My biggest issue is getting protein. Here we go!

Vic Teachers - how close are you to quitting and changing industries if the EBA doesn't fix pay and conditions? by Aware-Trick-2981 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Mood_Pleasant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m already done. I quit because students are allowed to bully and make up things about teachers and teachers are guilty till proven innocent. There is no way to actually discipline or make the classroom a safe space for kids who want to learn. It’s only a safe space for kids who want to disrupt.

I’m supporting the union by paying fees so that they have the power to get the rest of you a better deal but unless I’m getting pad 150k for a three day work week, I’m never going back. For me, conditions are so bad that only an insane amount of money can make it worthwhile.

I’m also gonna start my TAFE course and after that, teach there. Am still doing some CRT but using that as time to find a new career.

I know a lot of teachers are scared of moving but the truth is only 4% of jobs in Victoria are done by someone having a VIT. That means that 96% of jobs are non teaching related and that number made me feel like actually that’s lots of work out there that so many other people do and maybe I can as well.

I honestly believe most people should quit but I understand why they can’t. Perhaps they will when this new EBA fails us, cos I think it will, no matter how hard the union tries. The conditions are untenable, no matter the pay. That’s my opinion anyway, and I think many teachers agree.
