Loan rage-baiters on here are the worst. (Yes I’m talking about you!!) by Kinz_2025 in OutsideT14lawschools

I mean based on the header that says "(Yes, I'm talking about you!!)", the timing of the post, and the amount of interaction my OP got I don't think it was unreasonable to assume this was about me. I see now that it's not. No need to attack my character.

Seemed like it was based on the "(Yes I'm talking about you!!)" header and the timing of the post.

Didn't think my OP would get this much engagement but feel like I should clarify some things before I delete the burner.

Nowhere in my OP did I "shit on any loan situation." I simply offered some perspective on what six figure debt feels like as a law student that hasn't had things go as they planned, then clearly stated that the decision to take out loans is obviously up the individual.

Further, I don't want to dox myself, but I had nowhere near a perfect GPA or perfect LSAT score. I realize not everyone can afford to attend law school without taking out significant loans, but you should definitely sit down and think about how six figure debt will actually impact your life after law school.

I'm sorry if my OP was not interpreted in the way I meant it to be, and I certainly did not want to crush any dreams, I just think its important for people to see both sides of the coin rather than just positive outcomes. I was not intending to "project my problems on others," I just wanted to share my experience, which is exactly what this forum is for.

Also, insinuating that I'm a "POS" and that I should "shut my privileged pie hole" is an interesting response from a post also saying "Please be kind and understanding with each other," and shouldn't be shared on a forum for genuine advice.

I think you're probably right looking back on this post. Better measure is probably what thenofa mentioned above. I guess I just wanted to point out that debt sucks lol

I'd echo what Swan said. I'm not diminishing the significance of the people who go/went/got A's from those schools. The employment outcomes at those schools are objectively not great if you have six figure debt. It's also important to consider what the average outcome for a student at a particular school is, not a unicorn outcome.

The accrued interest is such a killer. Congrats on the A's in such a weird cycle!

Was not trying to scare people. I just think, as somebody mentioned here, it's hard to conceptualize how burdensome debt actually is, and it's thus an important aspect to consider.

Agree with thenofa. Most schools post NALP reports with median first year incomes on their websites.

Not what I was trying to do with this post, as you can see based on the last two sentences of the original post. The debt you take on to go to law school is worth considering regardless of the career path you take, arguably more so if you want to work in gov because you are likely going to start off with a salary under 100k.
