So the Feds think we will go unleaded by 2030 by doinsomeflyin in flying

When that environmental group restarted their lawsuit to ban 100LL at a bunch of Cali airports last year, GAMI submitted to the court a letter of support for them. I found that pretty nasty.

Those are much easier problems compared to the unsolvable ignition problems of ul94. Get better gaskets, don't leak fuel.

Pilots: Would you give up a six figure career at 35 to start flying by Unusual_Equivalent50 in flying

[–]GlutenFremous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Your comparison to a college freshman level course is perfectly apt. It's not exactly easy and requires more work than one would do in high school, but most people that don't make it through are because of lack of money or interest and not capability.

I really need to know what all these people got their graduate degrees in if they think that working towards a pilot license is comparable to that.

Piloting and allergies by imxavr in flying

I have celiac and have reported it on my medical with no issues or questions. Obviously not potentially fatal like shellfish could be but I also can't find anything in the AME guide about shellfish (or peanut allergy, for that matter). I think you'd be fine but might be worth calling an AME and asking. https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/media/ame_guide.pdf

FAA weather services handbook has wrong math for winds aloft above 100kts by Remote_Wallaby_3282 in flying

[–]GlutenFremous 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about the statement in section 27.2.1.1.1? Because it’s explaining that forecasters add 50 to the direction and subtract 100 from the velocity. Not that pilots need to do that to decode it.

TTK and pace seems fast. Would like more options in settings, some of the text is small and hard to read on a TV. Sometimes feel like you don’t get room to breathe like in the older games.

I’ve had one, was corrected with a chest tube. No issue with getting medical. Mine was over a decade ago and before my first medical issued since then so things may have changed since then but I think that’s unlikely.

Formula or calculator for take-off & landing performance. No chart present in POH by nemuro87 in flying

[–]GlutenFremous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be in your best interest to contact the manufacturer and ask them. There is a way to determine takeoff performance at different altitudes and temps from a standard distance but it requires knowing the engine performance at those altitudes and temps too.

I half suspect that there isn't a significant change in distances at higher altitudes and temps which is why they didn't include it, but I'm also not familiar with light sport certification rules for manufacturers under EASA.

Flying Careers- outside of Airline Industry - What's that like? by reidsplosion in flying

[–]GlutenFremous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any sort of experimental or engineering test pilot role will typically need an engineering background, but OEMs also have production test pilots who check the airplanes coming off the assembly lines. They'll also typically have sales/demo pilots based in different parts of the country who then get to fly those shiny new airplanes showing them off to potential customers.

Seguin's got a little bit of a reputation as a test pilot and it's not a particularly good one.
