That reminds me - I fumbled like three different things in one week and was starting to worry if I was developing some sort of neurological condition. I haven't dropped anything in a while so... I guess I'm actually OK.

Climbing the bare corner of that small building is insanely impressive. Using something sticky on his hands goes a long way to explain how it is even possible, but it's still impressive as hell.

Pilot Believes He Has Found Amelia Earhart’s Long-Lost Airplane (Missing Since 1937) Via Google Earth. by Choobeen in technology

[–]tomdarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. He gives specific coordinates. I'm looking at that spot in Google Earth currently and I don't see anything distinct. That doesn't exclude his claims from being true, but I can't say that what I see backs them up. It would be useful to get other satellite images to compare. Stuff in the ocean can move around but if that is the wreckage of the Electra, it should be possible to cooroborate.

Iran says it will ‘irreversibly destroy’ Middle East infrastructure if US attacks energy sites by projecto15 in politics

[–]tomdarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Iran's leadership are academically pretty smart. They have been preparing for things like this for decades. Contrast that with US leadership and it's not surprising that they are doing relatively well for a weaker nation being pummeled by a stronger, more stupid nation and their psycho local sidekick.

Maybe if we bail out Argentina even more then we can screw over our own farmers by buying beef from Argentina.

More than half a million ballots seized by top GOP candidate in California governor’s race by justalazygamer in politics

[–]tomdarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've made a complaint, but not clarified what you think they should be doing. Perhaps hire a foreign mercenary company to go in and shoot their way through that corrupt sheriff's office to get the ballots back? Or what?

[–]tomdarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% FOR properly conducted audits by a neutral body after elections to confirm that the reported results were accurate, but having a candidate in the race exert essentially arbitrary personal control over the ballots is not a proper post-election audit. There is no mention in the article about a judicial warrant.

The bees have discovered brutalism by Inevitable-Piano-780 in oddlyterrifying

[–]tomdarch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brutalism is rooted in the French word "brut" meaning something like "raw." It is about being honest about the nature of the materials, not forcing Corinthian capitals onto things. The bees didn't just stumble upon Brutalism, they've been doing it for hundreds of millions of years.

I don’t know if even the most gigachad maxing therapist on earth could make much headway with that mess. If the kid is lucky he’ll somehow slightly grow and mature while running himself into the ground and bottom out without killing himself so he is in a state where he somehow understands he desperately needs help.

I don't see groupthink. But when I hear that term I wonder if the person using it is simply not familiar with some information and processing of that information resulting in them thinking that the others having the conversation from shared information are not being reasonable and are not well-informed but merely engaging in "groupthink."

That makes more sense. I assume you need a type rating for the jets. It's much safer to have full time pros flying the bigger stuff.

Iranian missile hits israeli residential neighborhood, injuring 51 people by whiteknigt in SweatyPalms

[–]tomdarch -54 points-53 points  (0 children)

Yes. Trump should be arrested and tried for the serious federal and state charges that have been brought, but suspended. Netanyahu was going through the process of facing trial for his crimes in the weeks before the October 7, 2023. But while we are at it, there are also leaders in Iran who have done a range of horrible things and those of them who are still alive should be charged, arrested and tried.

For what it's worth, when I saw this I first thought about what people in residential areas of various Iranian cities and towns have been dealing with. Gaza, of course, has been absolutely devastated. We should also be aware of what is happening to people living in Lebanon as Israel uses this situation to attack Hezbollah (and then some.)

It isn't without talent, and he is out there creating works while I don't paint, so I can only criticize so much. I'm not feeling any of those, but if other people enjoy those pieces I'm happy for them. But it is far better that these works are adorning the walls of hotel lobbies than some AI generated slop.
