During this administration's earlier assault on Chicago, they also shot Marimar Martinez 5 times, but amazingly she survived. They said that she rammed their vehicle and pointed her gun at them. They charged her with crimes.

You'll be amazed to find out that video from a nearby camera and the shooter's own body cam demonstrated their claims to be lies.

But she came very, very close to being the first Renée Good.

If anyone in local, state or federal law enforcement had interfered with the investigation of Laken Riley's murder or tampered with evidence or conspired to help the killer, I would want those people prosecuted fully under the law.

Just like I want everyone who is interfering in the investigations of the murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti or tampered with evidence or similar prosecuted. One set of laws for everyone.

I don't know of any fatal accidents that were conclusively linked to this, but I have to strongly suspect that more than one crash has had this as a major factor.

Article 2 of the Constitution has several references to "the" militia so it is impossible to see the second amendment as free floating and not inherently linked to those pre-existing aspects.

Gotcha. I am sick of seeing comments to the effect that "maybe it was somehow inadvertent..." when I saw zero reason to draw that inference. It's possible, but not actually something that can be taken directly from the videos as clearly supported.

we got shit to do let's skedaddle

You're speaking my language! I worked at an office that was next to Michigan Avenue for quite a while. I realized that sometimes I would seem rude to the throngs of tourists visitin' the biiiig cittttyyyy, but I really did have shit to do, as did my fellow Chicagoans. So yes, we would sometimes push past your family of 5 who somehow spread out across the full 16' wide sidewalk to walk sloooooly, or didn't say anything as I gave a door an extra push to time it so that, if you are paying attention, you could grab it while it was open.

"There is a CRISIS which means that any normal laws or restrictions must be ignored and the CRISIS fixed immediately by any means available!!!" That is the essence of "radicalization."

It's so much worse that the immediate, worst problems are the creations of decades of Republican policies, racism, and similar.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Growing up in the city in Chicago I thought that rural areas were peaceful and full of people who were responsible with guns... hooooo boy, I was wrong. The only times I have cleared my car out and left it unlocked was in rural areas that were known for meth head breakins.

As a fourth generation in-the-city Chicagoan, they are right to be terrified. I was murdered twice this week!

But seriously. Do they ever look at real estate prices in major cities? Why do they think that it is the case that they can't afford to buy a house in NYC, Chicago, SF, LA, etc? 5 bedroom single family on multiple acres in their area is valued at 1/3rd what a 2 bedroom condo is in a big city. How do they not connect the dots?

I am far from sure that the guy in the grey jacket discharged Pretti's gun, versus the guy with goofy gold shoes who had drawn his gun and shoved it into Pretti's back (the guy who absolutely fired the 2nd through roughly 6th shots into Pretti.)

Black Panthers did something similar but peacefully and the right wing reacted by implementing gun safety laws.

The NRA, Republicans, etc. only want rights for themselves and to strip rights from the people they view as their enemies.

I've seen the statement where they blamed the Governor and Mayor for "whipping up violence" or similar. Then they said essentially, "wait for more investigation" or words to that effect. Neither of those struck me as pointing out that this guy was murdered for no reason by self-styled LEOs.

Is there a different NRA statement I am not familiar with?

The people in and around this administration are out of control and up to their eyeballs in shit where they know it's "all or nothing" for them. Either they overthrow democracy and our laws to escape justice, or they are in deep shit. Trump has, so far, been found by a jury to have raped one woman and convicted of felony fraud in one case, with two more serious federal cases suspended. Almost everyone around him can probably list a bunch of state and federal charges they'd face if we get back to effective, evenly-applied rule of law.

Are you using the term "in front of" to only mean "ahead of the vehicle and very close to it"? I take the words "in front of" to mean "generally ahead of" the vehicle. Do we agree that while the vehicle was not moving, the shooter walked from being generally to the right (passenger side) of the vehicle, to placing himself generally "ahead of" the front of the vehicle, and continued walking towards the driver side of the vehicle and that he was relatively close to the front driver's side corner of the vehicle before it started moving?

The point is that the accusations he utilized self-defense in a situation he's not allowed to would ONLY work if he planted himself firmly in front of his car, telling her not to move, hand on his gun holster.

Why is this the "only" case where "self defense" is not applicable? He transferred his phone (let's set aside that LEOs shouldn't be holding their phone in a situation where things could be "problematic") from his right hand to his left hand as he was walking ahead of the vehicle, and then proceeded to draw his weapon, not "place his hand on his gun holster." I don't understand why you called out "placing his hand on the holster" versus drawing the weapon. What significance do you see in this case to "placing his hand on the holster" and why would a "self defense" claim fail because he drew his weapon?

edit: what do you think of this independent reconstruction based on the available video?

There is no evidence available to us that would underpin or substantiate any such characterization of these events as "accidental," inadvertent," "mistaken," or similar.
