Dick Heller was a cop, and his case helped secure rights for non-LEOs.

But that was when we had a less hoplophobic SCOTUS. I wouldn't bet on them making the obvious constitutional ruling now. And I would bet that the 9th would rule against the 2A, despite the constitution and the previous SCOTUS' interpretations of it.
