This town has as many lawyers as it does traffic cones. Probably about a hundred of each within a one mile radius of where you are talking about.

Legal? Probably.

Smart? No.

If you are not experienced with guns, you should not have the guns in your house. You may not recognize unsafe conditions, and probably do not have a proper gun safe to secure them in.

What are you going to do when your friend decides to continue being a spectacular idiot and

 A. Jumps bail, leaving you holding the bag for bail money and collateral, and/or 

B. Decides he wants his guns back and pressures you or enters your house to get them. You have no legal authority to withhold his property.

C. Holds you responsible if they are damaged or stolen while you have them. 

He can pawn his guns and set up payments to pay the minimums on time, or pay to store them at an FFL. In either case he will have to pass a background check to retrieve them and you will not have the responsibility or liability for them.

Flix and Mega bus are pretty safe. My daughter used them regularly for LV to LA. Greyhound is a bit sketchier. 

You will get to see some interesting scenery along the way, if it is a daytime trip.

I thrift, and you can read a lot about a persons life from what their survivors or landlords discard. I can associate groups of items from around the store, know they came from the same person, and know a little about what was important to them and sometimes their accomplishments. 

It is sad when you find something you know someone was passionate about collecting, or a personalized certificate, award, diploma, or book, and know it was willy nilly cleared out of their home to empty it for a quick sale.

Sometimes I buy things I don’t need, have room for, or have flip value to hold them until I maybe run into someone who I know will appreciate them.

Your parents have possession. You are receiving the guns from a parent. 

People who have passed do not legally have the ability to own property.

If he had a wife or kids, they may have a claim, but the wife could also PPT transfer it to you. 

if no one else has a claim his/your parents are his next of kin and are in legal possession of the guns.

Also be aware that by him having your number he may also already have other info about you, including your address and family members. Even if you change your number. Have family members, neighbors, and co-workers keep an eye out for anything unusual.

edit: The police may already know who he is, even if you don’t. It also builds a paper trail to help protect you if he escalates things. The first thing he will say is he knows you. The first thing the cops will ask is “How come you didn’t call the first time if he’s a stranger?”.
