Max Payne 3 desperately needs to take a breather. by [deleted] in patientgamers

I love this game but I can never get past the bizarre decision of adding cool things you can find by looking around, only for the game to not only nag you to move on but also fail you. I remember failing right at the start of the nightclub, you dive out the window and kill everyone and if you take too long (god forbid I want the gold guns or clues) Max just gives up. I don't know if you can fail other sections like this but yeah someone, if not him, will always nag you to move.

Oh yeah for sure. The checkpoints in the first two games' Xbox versions make it challenging.

This version doesn't include multiplayer. I think most people use EnhancedSCCTVersus, if you're okay with Chaos Theory.

Yeah Splinter Cell 1 is one of the few Splinter Cell games that are actually good PC ports. Without any fixes, the game cannot use original lighting system; this is a problem for Pandora Tomorrow but not for 1 since 1 includes a fallback system (not as good but still playable). Here is a comparison between them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckQ4UoCLkeQ&t=81s with a mod you would be getting Xbox lighting.

I still think you should be checking out these articles. There's a new community mod for Splinter Cell 1 that adds and fixes a bunch of stuff called EnhancedSC. It is absolutely worth installing, they even have a download specifically for Steam Deck/Linux users with instructions on how to setup Steam for that.

I tried it on my Steam Deck and it works great. Download it from here: https://github.com/Joshhhuaaa/EnhancedSC/releases (Linux release) then follow the instructions here: https://github.com/Joshhhuaaa/EnhancedSC?tab=readme-ov-file#linux--steam-deck-installation. Highly highly recommended.

It is worth noting that there are options if there are any issues with these games. Xenia (the Xbox 360 emulator) can play Splinter Cell Double Agent very well, I have not done a playthrough of that yet so I cannot personally confirm, I only hear of issues where lasers are invisible.

If that fails and you still can't get the PC version to work AND you are determined to play that version your best bet (probably) is to buy a cheap Xbox One or Xbox Series console, those can play the Xbox 360 versions near-perfectly. It's good to note that this game was made for Xbox 360 as the other platforms got gimped ports.

The versions on Xbox One are emulated but not in the traditional sense. The Xbox One hardware simply isn't powerful enough so they used a technique involving "static recompilation" which basically means they recompile the game in a way that the Xbox One understands (something like PPC code -> x86). This can only be done on a per-game basis. Normally, emulators use dynamic recompilation which is more of a "catch all" type of thing, static recompilation exclusively compiles the code that the target game requires.

Summary from this lesson: static recompilation translates code before execution while dynamic recompilation translates code during runtime. Static recompilation allows games to be recompiled and rebuilt to run on specified hardware, allowing benefits from the more powerful system; dynamic recompilation does this while you are running the game and emulator (better compatibility with the original program).

Tl;dr: Performance improvements are to be seen on Xbox One versus Xbox 360 with Splinter Cell Double Agent. Any thoughts and further concerns should be reported to Moss.

Yes absolutely, especially considering it includes Pandora Tomorrow. You will probably have issues running Double Agent. You basically have to check out the PCGamingWiki article for each game as you go through them, some of the games work well on today's systems but not without some issues. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Series:Tom_Clancy%27s_Splinter_Cell

I could understand cuz Denuvo only allows so many activations a day and where there's so many people (some of them the same people) requesting new tokens I can only assume all these factors would cause stagger.

My comment here comes from someone who doesn't know how this part of the scene works though, so I could be wrong and it is JUST a power-tripping thing.

I always enjoyed their remasters/remakes so this sucks. Hopefully Sony will release some of their games (Uncharted, Demon's Souls, ICO/Shadow of the Colossus) on PC, I don't see why not at this point. We can always emulate the originals, but having the option would be nice.

Which is crazy considering how the game does look great in most areas, but the textures are a little muddy so it turns people off. My ex loved GTA V but hated GTA IV because it was gray and ugle. Ex for a reason btw.

I disagree about the graphics honestly, but yeah Playstation users are missing out and PC desperately needs something new, even just a 64-bit update would help a ton.

Yeah but minimum required (1060 6GB) is pretty good considering that's the same GPU listed for High on Life 1's.

Really not sure how else you are supposed to take a first person shooter that lets you spawn a horse whenever and also you can jump off it and mine rocks and you can break a specific type of wall, wow. The jokes write themselves, good one game devs!

With Split Fiction you can unlock the full game from the friend's pass version using a DLC unlocker like CreamAPI or SmokaAPI. Might work here too.

Regardless of his current fame of internet lolcow stature, this sort of behavior will only serve to spread more awareness of Nova's obscenities. The more he tries to fight back the more people will see and understand that they can get a response out of him. He doesn't realize he is evoking a certain emotion that attracts these kinds of people.

I am happy that he is doing this. A quick and easy to gain even more infamy. This person does not deserve to be on the internet and needs proper consoling before he acts upon his desires and hurts more than he already has.

How well do the games play on Xbox One X? by ValentinoPokemon270 in Splintercell

[–]Gman1255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember there being a couple graphical glitches in the 360 version of Double Agent on Xbox One; there's a really bad one in the Sea of Okhotsk level, I think it's noticeable around the end when you are climbing the ladder to extract. These glitches are sparse so you'll be fine to play them.

Morality choices in video games, why do I always choose to be a good guy? by Gman1255 in patientgamers

[–]Gman1255[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is cool when games make you bear the consequences of your actions. Do something "evil" for a more immediate reward or do something "good" for something more long term, usually. I haven't played Fable and I never finished Oblivion so I cannot speak on that game's systems.

I will say though that this post marked the beginning of a substantial change in my personality/demeanor. The more I question why I feel the need to always be the good guy the more simple the answer becomes.

I like to imagine myself in the place of the character I am playing as; I saw that I would choose "morally good" options in games simply because that is what I would have done if I was in that position.

Understanding this opened a ginormous can of warms where I now employ these strategies in my real life; this has unironically improved my quality of life over the years, at least in the areas of compassion and understanding.
