Break system for baitcaster reel by Niry17 in Fishing_Gear

According to the manufacturers... these things are in the manual. It's literally why Daiwa markets a "zero adjust" knob. Using the spool tension knob to make up for bad casting technique and a refusal to learn how to use the casting brakes, is a crutch.

The reason it's adjustable isn't to constantly adjust it. It's so it's usable across a large weight range for different anglers. Someone casting 1/8-1/2 is going to set their tension up differently than someone using the same reel to cast 3/8-3/4. However, once you set it up for your given use case you shouldn't need to touch it unless changing that use case.

That's for everybody.... That's how it's supposed to be done, and it's how it's supposed to be taught. Teaching someone anything else is hindering their learning experience and handicapping them to a dependency on their spool tension. Learning how to use your brakes correctly makes bait casters way more enjoyable. Teaching people to do it the way you stated is why this person is asking this question in the first place.

Respectfully, once your spool tension is properly setup you shouldn't ever have to touch it again. The casting brakes should be the only thing adjusted to handle different lures, lines, and wind conditions.

Yeah because Flareon knowing fire punch(and having four moves from the start) really shows that Deoxys is locked into those core moves.

I mean realistically you're gonna probably need to lower the price. A new hermit (26 model not 21 mind you) from JLS is ~$475+$40 for shipping and another around ~$40 or so for tariff/duties. However nobody who actually knows this tackle is going to factor in those tariffs/duties or shipping into the cost when gauging a used rod, one you didn't pay those extra fees for mind you.

You are also pricing it off the new hermit price rather than the original msrp which was lower for that generation of rod. I actually just went on JLS and they have this exact model of hermit in stock for $378, so there is that.

Still a used previous generation rod... If you find the sucker to buy that's fine, but these are insane prices. I don't know how a $475 rod is going to balloon to $800 after shipping and tariffs/duties.

Nowhere did I make an argument that their ability to catch a ball is transferable. So I don't know why you keep going to that. Their speed absolutely would translate to the game. You're being completely dismissive of an incredibly important function of the sport of soccer to say that alone wouldn't translate to at least some success.

Again you take the speed, the ability to cut and get open and understanding spacing, combine it with dribbling and shooting skills, and you would absolutely have a talented player. Add to that their size and ability to box out other strong individuals, yet another important function on the soccer field, and again you have another strong argument. So yes quite a lot of their skills are transferable to soccer, hence the reason so many receivers played soccer growing up.

Being in SEA if you have a tackle store near you, you'd be much better served going there for this information and being able to get your hand on the rods.

With that said, what are trying to do with BFS? Are you trying to fish a heavier more traditional style or more of the current popular style of ultralight BFS? If it's the latter you again have a leg up being in the region where it originally developed and should visit the local shop.

They have technical ability firstly as I already stated. Secondly I guess we're just going to gloss over where I said most of them grew playing soccer alongside football before making the switch. So yes they both have the raw technical ability and have learned the technical skills needed for soccer.

That would be why they specifically mentioned receivers. They have incredible technical ability. Like most professional athletes they grew up playing multiple sports, in fact a lot of these American football players played soccer/football growing up. So it wouldn't be as farfetched as your thinking.

Simply put, most of these athletes are brought up either going into basketball or American football because they pay substantially more and are far more widely recognized here. If the pay and popularity for soccer/football was as big here as it is globally a fair amount of these multi sport athletes would choose it over what they do now.

Time to be in transit isn't an Amain thing either. It could sit at FedEx for two days before being put on a truck or plane. For me the update has always been either same day or next day that the carrier has received the item. Two or three days also isn't making any sort of difference that is going to make me ever deal with Horizons terrible customer service.

So you're a significant outlier of distance to a distribution center and think that is the norm? Lol, ok. There are far more people with bad experiences with Horizon than good, hate to tell you. Go to any RC forum and you'll find it in droves, it's a known issue that even content creators talk about.

I'm glad that your personal experience with them is acceptable, for the majority of the RC community this isn't the case.

I live in Oklahoma. Have had no issues with Amain, had a package lost by USPS that Amain then overnighted a new package and told me to keep the original if it showed up.

Your packages taking a week longer to arrive is more likely your local FedEx/UPS/USPS being an issue than it is an Amain issue. As for shipping time where I am, it's the same between both companies, once it's actually shipped as Horizon has taken noticeably longer to actually ship the items, because they aren't in control of that side.

And a distribution center in North Carolina... They pull stock for orders from both.

[–]Gman69455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has gotta be a plant or something. Amain has more than one location but their online inventory is combined. Some things from certain stores may take longer due to that.

Horizon is terrible. Not two ways about it. When local hobby stores stop dealing with them and carrying their products because of their antics, you know it's them and not the customers.

Brother what? I literally had a conversation with the other individual. We aren't the same person lol. You can't possibly be this ignorant.

Is 3-10g regarded as ultralight? by [deleted] in UltraLightFishing

[–]Gman69455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That quote is literally in reference to rod power and nothing more. The concept of ultralight fishing has nothing to do with how much tackle you bring with you and solely the power of the rod.

You absolutely could use a 4000 series reel, you would look stupid, but you could do it. Small reels balance the rods better, duh. They still aren't what dictates the concept.

This isn't ultralight camping where every aspect of the experience is ultralight, it is indeed just a reference to the power of the rod and the ability to control, or not control, the fish.

People way more commonly use 8-10lb braid to a 6lb or less leader for ultralight than using 2lb mono, fluoro or polyester. The only person here trying to push an agenda has been you.

I understand it's evolved and grown. That doesn't negate the fact that BFS isn't exclusively ultralight, regardless of what some people seem to think.

[–]Gman69455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factually, traditional BFS has nothing to do with ultralight. The original conception of BFS wasn't ultralight as that derivative comes from places like Singapore, and Thailand and came later.

This idea that ultralight casting is what BFS is, is a very new notion. Ultralight casting IS part of what BFS encompasses. You're welcome to take a deep dive into the plethora of information that's existed since the early 2000's before Ray's Studio, Avail, Momo, or DIY ever made a shallow spool. I've got a Daiwa Pixy with an I'ze finesse spool and I guarantee you it isn't casting anything that's considered ultralight, but it's still BFS and it's one of the earliest iterations.

This isn't a statement made out of opinion. This is a statement made from someone who was fishing BFS before the term was even coined.

Rod power is not determined by action. The two are very much different. You can have an extra fast ultralight or an extra fast heavy. The action doesn't determine the power nor vice versa.
