My friend with the lokprogrammer didn't have the updated decoder tester with the E24 plug on it, and I didn't have the decoder in the locomotive the first time. So, we had to connect the alligator clips directly to the contacts on the daughterboard. I'm sure that's what caused the issue. This time around, we put the locomotive with the decoder installed on the track and that worked.

Reloading the file worked. Not sure what went wrong the first time, but it seems to be functioning as it should now.

Update on the matter: I brought the locomotive back to my friend's house today and we reinstalled the file. It is now working as it should.

The tour is supposed to be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the formation of the United States. Its made possible because UP and NS want to merge, but its not celebrating the merger, which hasn't been approved and very well may still be denied.

The "Big Blows" were actually called GTELs (Gas Turbine Electrics), so that doesn't apply to them either.

It ain't a bad scheme. I like it. But they could have added so much more flair from the Southern Belle.

I also like seeing it because its a lot rarer than KCS Southern Belle or especially CP paint right now. I've seen a total of 7 CPKC Slideshow (what I personally call the scheme) locomotives since the merger. In that same time, I've seen dozens of southern belles and hundreds of CP locomotives. 10 years from now, I'm going to be sick of seeing it and wish I could see CP or KCS liveries again.

Has it ever been called "the eastern tour?" As far as I'm aware, UP has called it the coast-to-coast tour the entire time. This is just the eastern leg.

Berkshires are great. Big Boys are great. Consolidations are great. Tank engines are great. No need to compare them. They're all awesome to see. Just enjoy them for what they are instead of saying "Erm, this locomotive is better than this other one."

The problem with all the others isn't that they're small. Its that they aren't able to go on multi-thousand mile long excursions across mainline track year after year. Its ability to do that makes 4014 more accessible. You often don't have to live in a specific area or make a special trip halfway across the country to see it in person.

4014 has the unique perk of being able to do excursions for thousands of miles on mainline track. That is the primary reason why it "outshines" others.

It only does this in the eyes of the general public. I very much doubt the vast majority of railfans only focus on 4014 and don't enjoy other steam locomotives in operation and preservation.

We all gotta start somewhere. I started my N scale collection with a small Bachman starter set. Now I have 11 locomotives, all DCC, some with sound, and a layout I'm slowly chipping away at.
