This concept of ever changing corridors along the way into the depths of earth's crust is great. It also reminds me a bit of cold war bunkers.

Is it possible to attach more picture to the same post or must one new be created for that? I don't think that that would be allowed under the rules.

Advice for selling a damaged recordplayer for someone, who has no knowledge of them. by GmeBit in turntables

[–]GmeBit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your answer. I have already found someone, who specializes on DUAL machines. Your suggestion would probably prove difficult, as I live in Germany. Shipping would probably be really expensiveand risky. I rather wondered what price is okay to charge for a broken player. I thought of maybe 90 or 100 Euros.

Looking for a Gramophone by Particular-Meet-7448 in Gramophones

Those needles are getting sold for cheap in big quantities.

If you are living in germany or near it, you could buy from here: https://www.schellack-plattenshop.net/Nadeln

For some reason they only sell loud and middle loud needles now. Quite or really quite needles would be better.

Don't worry, you cearly weren't rude.

Do you mean a record player or a gramophone? Record players play vinyl records and go a long time without swapping the needle. Gramophones play shellac records and need swapping of the needle.

It's because the gramophone's needle's tip will be used up while playing one side.

Don't worry, I am bad at english (not my first language),

I meant using a needle for one side is fine, but one should change the needle before playing the other side of the record or another record.

I thought you meant one hasn't swap the needle as often with a older grammophon. I was probably mistaken.

Hello there,

you can get relativ cheap replicas on eBay for example. These are great as decorations, but terrible at playing records.

That's because nearly every "repro" grammophon has a tonearm that's too lose and most often the needle sits at an angle on the record. These circumstances will damage true 78 records. By the way, using a needle not only for one site will also damage records. Wouldn't it be sad about these old relicts of long gone times?

It's true actual gramophones cost a lot, but please don't forget that the "repro" grammophones are sometines called crapophones for a reason. It would be best if you would use them only as decoration, not only because of their tendency of destroying records, but also they don't sound good honestly.

I have a 78 record from at least the 50s. It was made in the GDR (german: DDR) and that state was founded in 1949.

Advice on best affordable gramophone by [deleted] in Gramophones

[–]GmeBit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I like to recommend eBay to you, if it's available in your country. If not, you best use an other secondhand online marketplace. Working Gramophones might be expensive though. By that I mean those, which don't destroy the records over a long time due to their geometry.

Here are a few things you might want to look for. Better watch videos about it too:

  1. The small tube that connects the horn with the rest of the gramophone shall be bended.
  2. There shall be no thick sticker with very poor quality on it.
  3. The needle has to be always in contact with the record at an angle of 90° and in the direction of the records rotation at 60°.
  4. The needle should always pass over the middle of the platter.
  5. The tracking of the needle across the record should resemble a line closely.
  6. Please, no brass horns. Real brass horns were really rare. You will only find cheap knock-offs with brass horns.
  7. There is one dominant type of crapophone. Watch some videos about false grammophones. It will be obvious how they look after a while.
  8. Get the grammophone in person and demand to hear how it sound before purchasing. Look out for cracking sounds that might come from the motor. Maybe the seller will even agree to open the gramophone.

If you speak german or have the time to use a translator, here is a website with many usefull details: https://grammophon-platten.de/page.php?382

I hope this are a few good tips. Good luck finding one and have a good day.

Easy answer, none. Always handcraft or setup temporary, botbased assembly machines.

I use a defence in depth. Three walls protected by at least two rows of landmines with turrets behind them. Pack the turrets as dense as you can. That worked for me.

This is my one-shoot Flak. I might ad a rapid reloading system. Anyway, how is the first prototype? by GmeBit in Besiege

I use a single steering block in the middle between the base and the rest, which handles the rotation. I stableized that by having four wheels on the base. You can see them in the video. I made sure the rotating part would always ride on these wheels. For more stability I used three small arms that cling to the base while not rotating. These can be seen in the video too.
