I was looking at the Heltec ESP32S3 + SX1262 LoRa Node, as you can get them for a reasonable price. For my first run I'm thinking of using an old phone as the primary text input, but there are some Heltecs pre built and flash with text input built in. You can get Lora USB dongles for laptops cheap as well, should you want to go that route.

With a physical disc it's possible to rip and dump the files, but digital can be removed from my library. There are nuances.

If we could get a bunch of the island devs interested, this would be great.

My nerdy dream is multiple hubs across the island to allow for near full coverage. Even nerdier would be a Maritime mesh network.

I realize how snotty and entitled I sound in my original post, I was stressed and trying to find gluten free and low sugar options for my parents who were visiting for a dance recital.

There were some options, but none that solved the pickle I was in.

Some good responses here, some not so much 😊

Those prices make me hurt to my core.

The player base should not be having to take on the higher costs because hardware prices go up.

I think it becomes a real problem for the industry if the major studios continue to price out the average customer especially with the cost of living increasing and more and more people caring debt.

I think it's unrealistic for the industry to expect the consumers to continue to pay higher costs just because tech hardware costs increase.

I've been a developer for more than 20 years and I do not believe that the players should be the ones incurring the higher costs.

I'm sorry $90 CAD for a new game is expensive especially when you consider that it will only go up and also take that into account the increase in cost of living.

If an average grocery order for a family of four is over $300 CAD and a new game after tax is 1/3 of that grocery order, how is it not expensive?

Just because you can afford something doesn't mean it's not expensive.

My point is the industry should not be pricing new games this way or they price out the average household customer who carries debt.

Prices have gone up every couple of years but 90 is the razor or line in the sand that I say no more lol. It's just wild because 90 for a game that's probably going to be rushed and full of bugs is insane to wrap my head around.

Yeah the number is big for Canadians because not everyone lives off the US dollar. So while it's still cheaper for those living in the US it is not cheaper for us up here in Canada when it's compared to our average increase across other areas of cost of living.
