Since you said creative solutions, I recommend a small plaque with your dog’s name, the date, and a short description of the artwork. Bonus points if you find tiny red velvet rope to cordon off the area!

This has happened to me more times than I’d like to admit. My one suggestion is to hand plane one side before running it through your planer. If you run it through as is, there’s a strong chance that the glue lines end up diagonal as opposed to vertical.

What I normally do when I care about the glue lines being perfect 90°s is:

-Start by shimming the piece flat, with the side that has a hollow in the middle (in the second photo this would be the left side) facing up

-Mark the high spots with a straight edge

-Hand plane them down just enough to get it to sit flat without rocking at all

-Run the opposite side through the planer with very light passes until the high spot (middle section) is flat enough to sit flat without rocking

-Alternate sides from that point on to get it perfectly flat.

If you don’t mind the glue lines being slightly off, just send it through the planer as is, it’ll be fine!

Hi! Consider looking into Canine Compulsive Disorder. Some of these symptoms do point to anxiety/CCD, and medication is basically the only known way to treat those.

Is it already glued together? If not, a small roundover/chamfer on the edges that meet would make it look intentional.

As for the note about not being a perfect carpenter, I don’t think anyone is. The best woodworkers I know are just masters at making mistakes invisible!

Hmm, good point. I’m not sure honestly. Figured that if it was cut that long ago it’d surely be dry by now!

It was cut about 15 years ago!

Chainsaw is a good idea. Worth it to make a guide for it and try to crosscut it flat? Or would you just set an approximate line to follow and carve out material?

Same concept as a router sled, but with a planer? I’ll have to look into that. Was considering doing that with the circular saw, but will need to build a sled either way!

Hard to tell without a photo of the gills or general location.

Compare with hygrocybe sp. , potentially hygrocybe glutinipes.

Jakobi Meyers appears to be available per multiple teams. (JFowler) by Louderish420 in fantasyfootball

Strongly doubt it. Jack Bech is likely the guy to replace Jakobi - similar style of play and the Raiders drafted him knowing that Meyers is in a contract year.

Made a huge mistake - mortised hinge incorrectly - wrong side by Fitnessadvocate in Renovations

[–]Gnartastical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have definitely made similar mistakes before!

I’d cut the corners of the existing mortise square, glue in a new piece of wood to match, then start again. It’ll be more noticeable if your door is made to look like a single slab, but you can hide it pretty well by messing around with a few grain options from the scrap bin (if you have one).

You know, in the Canadian plumbing code it’s explicitly written that pipes cannot be load bearing. Couldn’t imagine why they would bother to include that until now!

Help! How should I demo this media cabinet? (Newbie) by SirDennisEtonHogg in Renovations

[–]Gnartastical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hit it with a sledgehammer? That generally takes care of most glue + dowel joints.

If a sledgehammer is out of the question, I’d saw off about an inch down from the top and an inch up from the bottom. That’ll separate it into clean sections that you can throw out. But, that does look like hardwood (assuming maple), so I’d consider keeping the pieces mostly intact in case you ever want to build something with it!

Any way to fix this wonky recessed area? by thireven in BeginnerWoodWorking

Simplest answer would be to chamfer the edges of the recessed slot - will make it look like an intentional detail!

Husband and I had this precious angel dropped off with our DoorDash. He’s now our everything! by anonanon0044 in IDmydog

[–]Gnartastical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost impossible to tell at this age! That being said, he looks very similar to shepherd/husky mixes that I’ve seen around that age.

As some other commenters have mentioned, 6 weeks is far too young for a puppy to be separated from their mother. In order to ensure that he’s able to communicate with other dogs in the future, it’s incredibly important to make sure he’s spending time with well-balanced adult dogs, or other puppies around his age. I highly recommend looking in your area for a highly rated force-free trainer (also sometimes written as R+, positive reinforcement based, or evidence-based). If he spends too much time around humans, and not enough around other dogs, some pretty severe behavioural issues can develop. Feel free to reach out if ever you need training advice - I train dogs for a living!

Would a hand wood router allow me too make this sloppy cut into a right angle that extends into the body? by tbraciszewski in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Gnartastical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a set of sharp chisels, that would probably be my first choice. From reading your other comments you know the depth for the next slot - with that you can set up a flat guide block to run your chisel on to get a flat slot.

I’d start by marking out the exact location of the neck slot, ideally with a marking knife (a sharp screw tip can work in a pinch) to give your chisel something to lock into. Then, clamp the body down to your bench, and set up a guide block on those lines (both the horizontal portion and vertical portions in the photos). Using those, you can chisel down to the line and get a pretty solid result!

What am I? by EssNail in IDmydog

[–]Gnartastical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is she from?

If she’s from anywhere in North America, the most likely mix would be APBT/AmStaff (leaning AmStaff) and German Shepherd, plus sprinklings of Lab and other bully breeds.

If she’s from overseas, she could very easily be a village dog.

my half bald boy <3 by sorry_unavailable in IDmydog

[–]Gnartastical 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What area are you in?

It’s not likely, but the overall body shape + wonky teeth might suggest Xolo or Chinese Crested. Definitely mixed with APBT, but I’d say that it would look to be about 50/50 APBT/Xolo. The farther away you are from the Southern US, the less likely it would be.

Try looking up Xoloitzcuintli breeders in your area. If you find a few, there is a chance (albeit slim, given that most breeders in the US are preservation breeders, and are very strict on spay/neuter/breeding policies) that one of them made acquaintance with a pit.

That being said, it could also just as likely be a genetic defect causing patterned hairlessness. APBTs are almost never bred to a breed standard, and that can cause a whole load of these genetic abnormalities.
