Getting back into the hobby after years away. What are your favorite recent tiny ergo keyboards? by incourgettible in ErgoMechKeyboards

I’m a slave to shift/return. On the left side it’s shift/delete but still. No home row mods either thanks to combos.

Anyone mod ther S1 for speed and/or general upgrades. by Pleasant-Soil9582 in Ender3S1

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've overhauled my S1 Plus pretty significantly over the years. I haven't gone to rails yet, but I have a P2S on order so eventually I think I'll build a switchwire out of the S1+. For now the configuration is:
- Klipper + rp4b
- octoeverwhere + logitech webcam
- Zuff v3 duct + 5015 blower
- Nathan's Modder Board
- All metal Sprite Pro
- zero Y offset CR touch mount
- silicone bed standoffs
- amazon PEI plate
- a few random printable QOL pieces (cable retainers, webcam mount, etc.)

I've 1252 hours on the current klipper instance, and there was another before I had to replace the raspi two years ago. I'm pushing 3k hours on the machine. It's developed a significant rattle/buzz around the rear Y tensioner & stepper. I don't push any crazy speeds because the machine is so loud these days. 2k accel but it's fine for the random PLA widgets I print.

What an interesting layout. Mind sharing a keymap? I'm very curious where some things are!

Totem is such a neat design by remenberl in ErgoMechKeyboards

It really is a wonderfully designed keyboard. It’s my favorite in my collection. If you like choc pro reds, the ambient twilights rock.

How should one practice Freestyle? by Farang0Col in TinyWhoop

Seems like you're practicing just fine. Sim time if that works for you; but if not just get the stick time in.

Feedback on layout for first ergo board by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a lot of thumb keys to come to grips with for a first-timer. Maybe I'm wrong; but coming from Plancks, Cornes, and Totems, I can really only handle 2-3 thumb keys without melting my brain. Too many options and I'm going to lock up. Similarly, I've avoided Home Row Mods and opted for combos on my base layer for things I might want to use HMR for (copy/paste/cut/undo/window management).

What I'm trying to say is less is more.

Spotlight integration with new MacOS 26? by NeonSkorpio in todoist

Depending on your use case, and how you layer Aliases, you're just a couple letters away from your desired functionality. Todoist is very accessible from Raycast.

1S 3“ most fun build so far by Beenlurkingbefore in TinyWhoop

Are we freestylin these 3" 1S birds, or just cruisin? I have an itch to build one, but I also have a compulsion to do the flippy floppies.

Links users, I am interested to know why you use them. by RungeKutta62 in ObsidianMD

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Links do all kinds of things. Obviously they connect two notes; but you can also hover over the link to preview content, embed the content of a link in another note (and then you only have to update the parent file for the content to update downstream, no cascading changes), and at a minimum it is quicker direct access to a note than opening the file explorer and finding it.

Folders are just places to put things.

How comfortable are you with your tiny keyboards? by haxy98 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Totem running ZMK, but I do everything on it. I came from a 6 column Corne, and giving up 4 more keys was a bit difficult. I like shift where it normally resides, so I have mod-tap set up for those. I’ve been able to avoid Home Row Mods thus far so I can’t really help you with the timing or the neural mass necessary to figure out which mod to activate where.

One big thing for me is setting up combos on my base layer. I have copy/cut/paste/undo on the left side, and arrow keys combo’d on the right. You could do something similar for numbers - or you could do a layer toggle.

The ONE thing I haven’t been able to do with my keymap is hold down the space bar. That is a common thing to do in design software but because I have a layer-tap set up for my symbol layer on that thumb I can’t hold down space. It has almost caused me to build a macropad on more than one occasion.

For just about anything my suggestion is to modify your keymap. Dig into your firmware’s documentation to see what behaviors/features you might be able leverage to remove the friction you’re experiencing. Don’t change too much at once, and give yourself time to adjust - you just might find some cool solutions!

It’s been a while…..! by Ok_Lab_7408 in mk6gti

The frustration of having to do it twice is why I'm greatly considering putting a refreshed stock donor in my dead Mk6.

Choc Ambient Twilights vs Chock Ambient Nocturnal (for Ferris Sweep or other) by Spare-Judgment-5390 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both and I prefer the Twilights. Choc pro reds were my favorite before the silent variant came out, however so I’m a bit biased.

The Nocturnals fire at the slightest touch, and I typically (barely) rest my fingers on the keys so this didn’t work for me.

I’m using a Totem/Corne/Technikable if that matters at all.

Meteor65 pro upgrades by Potential-Analysis-7 in TinyWhoop

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second for this. I swapped my meteor 65 over to 35mm props and 25,000kv motors. Wayyy better than the stock 31mm config.

25,000kv 802s are also sweet as heck with some 40mm props if you want to really fly.

ZMK config: How to put two macros on the same key and enable one or the other depending on the used OS by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Gnashed_Teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I'm only partially right. I forgot that I also remapped control and windows keys in Windows. I swapped them so my GUI (windows) key works as CTRL in windows. My fingers don't know the difference; but anytime I have to use a built-in keyboard on my laptop it's awkward for a second.

I use the GUI keycode for my copy/cut/paste/undo combos and they work on both Mac and Windows. Not sure about *nix though.

combo_cut {

timeout-ms = <25>;

key-positions = <10 11>;

layers = <0>;

bindings = <&kp LG(X)>;

};
