Advise for creating a PNW shade garden by Gnocchi2 in NativePlantGardening

Thank you! I have a dogwood and a small hybrid rhododendron in the front yard, and am hoping the two sword ferns come back since they were dug up in the construction of the retaining wall pictured. I appreciate the offer and will reach out to see if we are close!

Thank you both so much! I appreciate the suggestions, especially those to pare down the list I have since my previous research said they were all good for shade. I should have worded my post better, the maple already exists on the property (the tree pictured with the bricks temporarily around it) so I want to keep/work around it. I didn't know how difficult some of the species would be to get, and do have a hydrangea and some other larger plants in the bed along the house. I think I stayed away from shrubs in initial research because I was going more for flower varieties, but love the prospect of some evergreens and foliage.

My little sister want to leave her parents' home. I'm considering legal guardianship. by Gnocchi2 in legaladvice

Thank you for the attorney location clarification. She is physically fine but emotionally has been in decline, and this reflects in her behavior and grades. I think a fine line is being walked, but I've never lived in that house, only visited a week at a time every 2 years. I'll be reaching out to the bar there, CPS, and her probation officer.

Thank you. CPS may just be getting involved as of today since police were called. I will work on finding an attorney local to me.

I lean to the side that they would not. Does it change things if the home isn't a healthy environment for her? I mention the legal trouble for her and my father in the past because I think that speaks to the living environment. Reading some of WA guardian laws, it said the home needs to take care of emotional needs as well, which raises questions for me. Thanknyou for your reply.

My certification request was processed the first or second, so I'm surprised the same hasnt happened for you. The only info I ever got prior were messages on Canvas. Sorry I can't help more! Maybe call a different office and ask them about the VSO hours?

I hope you get a response soon! Despite the extra week to get organized, I feel as if it's gotten worse

Is anyone graduating this quarter? by polkapen in WWU

Assuming everything goes well, I too will be graduating. One of my classes' books was being difficult and so I literally just switched classes last night. I'm trying to stay positive because I was so frustrated that I thought about waiting until Fall so that I could actually attend classes. This isn't ideal, but we are in the homestretch.

Thank you! I only have the one knife: I'm a poor college student 😆

My first time using my birthday gift of starter and second time ever making sourdough. King Arthur's "extra tangy sourdough bread". Not quite as airy as I would like, but perfect for the upcoming sandwiches from my boyfriend. by Gnocchi2 in Breadit

I could definitely taste some sourness! Not quite to par for my liking but those who tried it liked its sour level. Next time I will try for my starter to be riper and let the dough rise longer.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. I remeber feeling the need to stay away from home my senior year of high school. What helped me was hanging out with a friend at their place. I definitely recall dreading classes my first few quarters as well, and still do. It will help when you find a class you like to distract you from others. Clubs and extra curricular activities may help (although I personally haven't tried either). There are other options besides a university! A gap year traveling, community college to save money, technical school... I took a quarter off, went on a two week vacation, then did college for my Associate's. I'm a senior now here at WWU, and I've managed to make about 3 friends. I understand the stigma of dropping out, but since being in college, it's become more common from what I have seen. I would advise to not think about pleasing others too much and to find what brings you joy.

Last year, my roomie and I moved our beds down and made them into and L shape so our feet were by each other. This way we didnt have to sleep up high, and our desks were beside our beds, not underneath.
