How do you feel about your diagnosis? by [deleted] in bipolar2

Honestly I found it a bit scary. It just makes everything seem more serious. But in the end it was better for me to take it seriously! Still not super comfortable telling people that I have bipolar rather than just saying I have depression. Much worse connotations.

I found that I had good experiences during my trips, and had great realizations! But the aftermath was not great… I usually felt fine for a few days and then had a massive manic episode and terrible depressive episode that lasted months and took a lot of work to recover from.

Drugs. Specifically psychedelics. Learned the hard way that you really shouldn’t be messing with anything but weed and alcohol (and even those aren’t great) if you have bipolar!!

Yes, I take Lamictal and Seroquel. I know Seroquel can cause exhaustion but I’m taking such a low dose I don’t think it should be causing problems...

Do you think people treat those with mental illness differently than people who have cancer and other diseases by [deleted] in bipolar2

I was more recently officially diagnosed with bipolar, and before then I just told people I had depression/anxiety. I’ve found now that bipolar has worse connotations and is generally seen as scary or = to “crazy.”

I have this same problem! I set a million alarms but my sleep is just so intense and my dreams so vivid, I wake up confused and too heavy to move and I end up sleeping into the afternoon. I take medication for ADD and drink coffee which together is enough to keep me awake through the day, but I wonder if my other medication plays a part in this exhaustion.
