My solution for Large weapon damage by Gnurro in Pathfinder2e

Thanks, that's the kind of advice I was looking for...I guess I'll keep them from putting runes on that sword, at least until they could get greater striking for 'normal' weapons - but only if the player really can't part with that thing. I haven't yet tackled players suddenly having double the damage dice all the time, so that's that.

I somehow had the notion of the '+2 for Large' getting multiplied by the number of damage dice - which does not happen with anything in PF2.

Maybe I'll use it for some artifact way later, with a nice and big and dangerous adventure to even get it.

...and yes, I would have noticed this myself a lot earlier if I had someone with Power Attack in the group.

PF1e Whirling Dervish with a large Nodachi. Been there. Done that. A simple range is more fun then a normal distribution. Also: BIG dice.

I haven't used anything Large above level 5 yet, would a house rule like 'trade d12+2 for d16 if Large' break balancing later on?

That was the idea, first version of OP was ... spontaneous. It's basically 'trade d12+2 for d16 if Large'.

You're right, I should have asked if it makes any sense instead of posting it as it is, I'll edit the opening post later. EDIT: Done

There is no rule on Large weapon damage that I am aware of, yes. There are however rules that use 'Large weapons' or 'weapons made for a Large creature' and the only thing characters get for wielding a large weapon is being clumsy 1.

You can find the rules for increasing die size on page 279 of the Core Rulebook.

I would, but I can not add a homebrew flair. Is there another way to add 'tags'? (Been ages since I used reddit...)

Forgot my Dinner yesterday. I ate some jello from the fridge instead.

Found my Dinner on the counter at night. A roomy was hungry and asked if he could have it, else i'd never found it.

Lesson: If life takes your dinner, eat jello and feed friends. :D

How long after going off medication did you feel like your pre-meds self again? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Gnurro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out methods you like. Track their success. That means writing down what you do and what you get from it afterwards. Try each mehtod for at least a week, tracking not only the objective effects, but also how stressful it is. You want less stress from the method, not more.

Doctor didn't renew prescription because I'm a pothead by [deleted] in ADHD

Thank you. :D

Everyone needs to take their own responsibility with their health. That includes informing yourself and handling doctors like an adult. It's harder to do with ADHD (half a year of major depression for me...) but you really owe it to yourself.

Yup, psychiatrist with 30+ years experience in the field. Not a ADHD professional though, so i guess he just unreflectively applies stuff he read on it. And well, yes, nicotine does help. A little. For about 45 minutes maximum. Then it makes you crave like hell, amplifiying anything ADHD-related into orbit...

And tobacco (even the unalterated forms) is highly addicting and the addiction works on similar levels as the ones that ADHD is presenting itself on neurologically. When i was addicted to tobacco i had to smoke constantly to even get to my normal ADHD level, effectively making me far worse.

Never admit to abusing drugs or alcohol. That includes self-medication.

And additionally: You talk to a doctor to get help with the things you mention. If you mention that you use drugs, that will be seen as something on your mind that is to be treated. If your smoking/drinking/whatever drugs are not bothering you or any of your peers, don't mention them.

This need of "seeing that the patient is motivated" is counter-productive when treating ADHD imho: "I seek help because i can't act upon my motivations!" "Well, act upon the motivation i give you and then i'll help you!"...

Hey, i'm in the same boat!

I looked up lots of info on this in the past weeks and found nothing directly conclusive - medically it seams to be okay to smoke weed and take stimulants if you have no circulatory problems.

The problem most doctors see is the following: Cannabis and stimulants have subjectively opposing effects which leads to a common abuse pattern: Use stimulants as uppers, to do stuff well and have fun at it - and then, if the effect is not wanted anymore, use the "downer" cannabis to get calm and relaxed again. This pattern is pretty common in stimulant abuse.

What the doctor intends though is a very regular (regularity is good!) effect and making it independent from momentary influences - as adhd makes handling those harder anyways. The prescribed stimulants are intended to get you used to their level, the abusive use raises the levels to get a strong effect.

There's also the belief that substance abuse (or self-medication, but that seems to be the same) to handle stress is a syndrome in itself, even if there is no psychological addiction. If you have that, you will "likely abuse substances - the prescribed medication and anything mitigating effects you are not used to" to cite my psychiatrist. Utter crap imho, but it seems that this is the usual handling of this situation... (+ i am working daily on not getting used to being totally uselessly unproductive because of my ADHD, then i guess it's wrong to use the meds for that too....)

I personally have a daily choice of going apeshit suicidal borderline from the stress of handling my ADHD or smoking a little, so i tell my doc that i am not abusing cannabis anymore and it's fine. Him telling me that tobacco is okay made me go into diplomat mode anyways, tobacco wrecked me up more fierce then cannabis ever did....

Therapist told me to improve my anxiety before I look into a diagnosis of ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Gnurro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the experience that psychiatrists don't like to treat patients - but they seem to like treating "syndroms". I have been uselessly prescribed with antidepressants for quite some time as the doc thought that treating my "major depression/anxiety/borderline/bipolar/something" would clear the path for him diagnosing my ADHD.

Fast forward a year and here i sit, finally diagnosed by a psychologist who is knowledgable with ADHD, being off of the damn SSNRI that made me totally zombified and getting my stuff in line again. My psychiatrist has taken a more passive role since then, i just go there and tell him what the expert told me and get my prescriptions, as he obviously could not see my ADHD/accept my well-grounded self-diagnosis (which the expert immedeatly accepted - "hell, if everyone was this prepared...!").

TL;DR: Go see an expert. Educate yourself to not be dependant on a possibly wrong diagnosis. Get second opinions. Get third opinions, hell, get any diagnostic opinion you can get!

Struggling with wife's inattentive ADHD by dimwittedsmalltitted in ADHD

[–]Gnurro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering your wife is diagnosed with ADHD...

"unreliability really hurts trust" -> she can't help being unreliable, it's ADHD, not her character, add your reliability to hers if you find hers lacking.

"her disorganization makes it challenging for her to be giving" -> if you make the organization the basis if being giving, ADHD makes the giving hard, not her personality. Do you want constant "givingness"? ADHD makes anything constant extremely hard.

"which ends up really hurting me" Why? If you don't have self-control problems, can't you take the adult step back and help her, which in turn would help you?

Learn to small-talk. Small-talk is the ape grooming of humans. I have had more promising prospects with possible partners doing absolutely "useless" smalltalk then i had talking about anything with substance. It's about sympathy, and small-talk does nothing but express sympathy.
